Need Help Redoing Suspension

Hey everyone

I haven't been on this site for years, but here goes. I know I should probably use the search, but it seems a lot of the posts for the 7th gens is dated and I was looking to see what the current best options are.

I bought my 02 Civic Sedan new and within a month I lowered it with GoldLine drop springs, don't even know if they are around anymore. I think they are a 2" drop front and back. A couple years after, I replaced my struts with Tockico Blues. Well I think it is finally time to rebuild the suspension, but my needs have changed since my younger days.

I love the way my car looks now, but I have a 40 mile commute one way to work on not so great roads. I was thinking of just buying new tockico blues and some drop springs around 1.5". Then I got to seeing the prices, $450 for blues now? Am I looking in the wrong place(ebay)? I paid $300 for them before.

Well anyway, now I want to get your opinions. What should I buy as far as struts/springs or coilovers. I am looking to spend under a grand as this is basically just a commuter car now. I don't know what the good brands are anymore.

Also, what good camber kits do they make for these cars? I have always had a hell of a time with tire wear on the inside of my tires. I have those camber bolts up front, but I was thinking of replacing those as I think they are worn out and move around a little.

Thanks in advance
Mickey

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

I paid $375 shipped off ebay for my Tokicos in September, I did a lot of searching and that was the best price I was able to find. A two inch drop is a bit much for blues, the maximum recommended drop is 1.8 inches, so changing to a spring with less drop should be a significant benefit. I would suggest Tein h-tech or s-tech springs, they are extremely good quality and drop your car 0.8 with the H and 1.5 inches with the S.

Ingalls and SPC are the two best camber kit manufacturers, Ksport might be decent quality for a low priced brand. Check out all your suspension components to see what needs to be replaced, a lowered car is hard on suspension components!

Welcome back to the site

Just a bit concerned because they swapped the blues and the illumina's description...
Not sure how the tokiko springs are either...
In the miata world, they tokiko springs are too soft for the lowering provided, so they are not well looked. However, many springs that do not work on the miata works on the other cars, so just not sure...

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

ya, i also saw that they kept the description for two different items the same, after i posted. as well since i'm also looking at new suspention a few of the guys on here have said the lowering springs on the tokikos can only safely lower 1.8 inchs. not much. but they're cheep and right now my suspention is really scaring me to drive. my front driver's side wheel sits only 1 inch fron the body 9looks cool on that wheel, lol) and the other 3 tires are 2-3 inchs. so my car is tilting down to the left when i drive and makes the steering wonky.

The site looks legit, but I heard that there is a big problem with fake Tokico's developing from a vendor on another forum. Thats like $100 less than any price I was able to find in September and I searched for a long time..

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

Tein s-techs would do you well.

And as for websites, I can personally vouch for Dezod.com and thmotorsports.com. Both used to be very active vendors on this site and still give some good *** deals on parts. Dezod kinda sucks for shipping though. THmotorsports gives you free shipping on most items over $100

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

Thanks guys for the input. So it looks like in my price range it would be better to go with the Tockico Blues with and some tein springs versus a coilover system. If I had the $1500 i would do coilovers, but it looks like replacing my shocks and springs will do what I need it to do.

I am trying to decide between the Tein S springs and the Eibach Sportlines. I know the Sportlines dont give as much of a drop, but would they be that much better than the Teins?

With the Tein S drop springs, would it still be worth the money for the rear camber kit? I know it wouldn't hurt, just don't know if my camber will be that bad at 1.5".

MAC25 - The $360 price isn't for our civics I don't think. I clicked on the link and it is only on some packages for other vehicles and they don't have the 7th gens listed. Thanks anyway though

xRiceboYx - thats funny, back when I was more active on the site 6-7 years ago, Dezod was the place to get anything for the 7th gen and was a very active member on here.

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

Hey, I just was looking on that website MAC25 recommended, and they have Tockico D Spec coilovers. Are these good? I figured if I am paying $375 for shocks and $200 for springs, I can pony up the extra $100 or so for a coilover system that is designed to work together, that is IF you guys say they are good.

Thanks again everyone

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

Just found the D specs on ebay for $550 with free shipping. I think I will pull the trigger if you guys have heard good things about them.

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

So I am a MORON and just realized that the D-Specs are just the struts and shocks for $550. I found out my Gold Line Springs are suppose to be a 1.75" drop. My question now is, are the D-Specs as good as the Koni's? They seem like they would be easier to install than the Koni's, but will they handle my current springs or would I need new ones still. If I go Koni's, they should handle my current springs right?

I am looking for the smoothest ride on my long work commute over crappy roads. I found the Eibach Pro-Street Coilovers online but I couldn't find any promising reviews. It seems they are great for the track and ok for the road. Anyone here tried the Eibach Coilovers?

Re: Need Help Redoing Suspension

I am not really sure, so take this with a grain of salt.
You currently on blues, so stock replacement. The D-specs are adjustable, so I am assuming they have a little more damping than the blues on higher setting. If it's true, they sould be able to handle the springs.
Not sure if they can handle the drop, though...
