Knocking - Suspension

Hi ... I have a knocking sound when braking down hill... I believe it is the suspension. I believe I need new control arm bushings. Does anyone know if this is a big dollar job to have fixed.
Thanks.
T.

Re: Knocking - Suspension

most of the time you hear that knocking you should think about replacing struts first.

Struts are those the bars you put in for better ride? If I don't have one on my car will it make that sound?

^ Struts are your shock absorbers. It is very dangerous to not have them in your car. They help keep the tire in contact with the road.

newhondadriver: I would check the shocks first.

Re: Knocking - Suspension

Ok thanks. So the struts are different from the strut bars right. The ones that you put on top of the 2 shocks up front? Does having strut bars help and in what way?

Re: Knocking - Suspension

Strut bars reduce flex in the car/suspension and gives it a more rigid feel and response.

Re: Knocking - Suspension

Knocking in suspension can be a couple of things. I would check the shocks first of course then maybe ball joints, LCA bushings, stabilizer endlinks.

I don't believe in god. Do you?
unless you tell us why you do believe (like inspecting the suspension yourself, for starters...), take the car to diagnose in a shop. you are not required to do the job, and they need to show you what seems to be wrong if you ask it to be so.
Internet diagnosing is like that. Anyone trying to be simply helpful without asking questions and without you providing clear explanation or or even pictures are just that. Best guesses. And you get what you paid for: nothing.
g'luck!
to all the other guys,
is it even worth replying without asking what needs to be asked?
