Coilover Problems 1.7EL

I finally went to get my Ground Control Coilovers installed today on my 1.7 EL, i have the same kit that's for the 2001 civic sedan. The shop that was going to install it said there's no way that I should be installing these. He said that it would "bend" the tie rod/control arm upwards or something and basically it would most likely snap. This is connected to my steering column so it would obviously be a disaster.
Does anyone here have Ground control coilovers on their EL or a 01+ 4dr civic?? I'm 99% sure that the suspension setup is identical on the EL and the 4dr civic. I really want to install them but i'm really scared because i dont want anything snapping.

Anyways, if anyone has any advice or knowledge about this it would be really appreciated it
Derek

If you drop it too far, yeah, you'll have issues with the steering arm angle. But anything thats not rediculous (less than 1.75 or so) you shouldn't have a problem. Find another shop.

You can do a tierod inversion, drill out the taper in the steering arm on the strut and install the tie rods from the bottom, or you can wait and see what the J's Racing Tie rods do when they come out.... $250.

Thanks so much, that helps out a lot.. I see so many different cars on here with huge drops though! Are they just all taking the chance ? I don't think most of them mentioned anything about new tie rods. Or is the suspension different on the EL then the civic??

EL suspension is identical to the same-year Civic sedan.
