Post KYB's

Found the KYB AGX. So far I have found it at this web site and at tirerack. 450 seems to be the deal. I am gonna order these pupies in a few weeks. I will post up some pics and stuff of the install. If anyone can find these for cheaper let me know soon...

I put mine on last week, and am very happy with the ride. And I also seen them on ebay a couple of weeks ago, so you might check there before you order them.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33590

384.50 + 24.50 = $409.00 total = best price.

Yeah it would be nice just to see what they look like installed... I have done struts before but its been a few years and I wouldnt mind hearing any input you have on doing it. I will prob do the rears first then the fronts another day. The only thing I need that I dont have to do the job is a spring compressor. Does anyone remember what kind of spring compressor they used on that show tunertransformation? I was just thinking I could get that thing then I wouldnt even have to take the struts to a shop...

I just used some Kragen el cheapo spring compressor. The kind that you clamp one on opposite ends of the spring and turn with a socket. The last time I did my fronts I didnt even use a compressor to take off the top mount. Just gotta watch out where the part s go flying lol.

I will take some shots of mine, I will try to do so this weekend. Remember though, i got oem springs so it may look a little high to you.

Tell me what kind of shots you would like to see. I plan on taking a couple dozen from all angles.

I just wanna see what they look like. Take some pics of the struts up close if possable. I am kinda of curious to see what the fronts look like too.
Also I am kind of wondering what kind of springs to get with them. It kinda makes sense to get coilovers though. If I have the shocks that can handle a big drop then why not just get them... I am either getting coilovers or neuspeed race. Not sure yet...

I thought the adjustment ***** were on the side of the shocks. Are the adjustments made on the top like the konis?

yeap, the adjustments are on top. kinda difficult to get to on the rears, for the sedan, but fronts are quite easy to adjust. thats why i sliced my rear truck carpet for access to the adjsmnts.

I am riding on setting 1 all around right now, it is quite smooth with the OEM springs. the higher the setting the less roll but it does rattle you up quite a bit. i should set them on 4 to see how it is, but for me thats pretty rough for around town driving.

quick question
if you do change the settings should you make them the same for the front and back?
or does it depend on what you are doing

The way I understand it is that if you want to change the handling charateristics of your car then you adjust them diff front vs rear. You can reduce understeer or oversteer by stiffening up one and loosening the other. I can't remember which way it goes but thats the idea. Some other ppl on here prob know which way you go but I forgot.

In general, Civics come from the factory tuned for understeer (front wheels slide first). A car that understeers is generally safer than one that oversteers (harder to spin). However, for better performance oriented vehicle dynamics, you want to reduce understeer and promote oversteer (not too much...). This will give you a car that is more willing to turn.

For understeer:
stiffen front dampers/soften rear dampers
or
stiffen front bar/soften rear bar

For oversteer:
soften front dampers/stiffen rear dampers
or
soften front bar/stiffen rear bar

Think of this in terms of lateral load transfer between tires as the car tries to roll. Stiffer bars or dampers will raise the roll moment at that end of the car (making it harder to roll). More load will be transfered to the outside tire (while less load goes to the inside). Eventually, the outside tire will become overloaded and reach its limits of adheasion, and then it slides.
The question is, wich end slides first?
The answer is, wichever end is relatively stiffer.

good post, thanks for the info... i want to try my fronts on setting 2 or 3 with the rears on 1. i want to get some understeer back in my ride, i dont like oversteer too much, always feels like i am going to spin out on mild turns. it scares me. Plus i got stiffer sway bar in the back now, its a progress.

ok, i got the fronts set on 3 which should be very firm, and the rears set on 1, so i should get my understeer back. i will follow up tomorrow after the ride to work and the ride back home.
