Well, um, thats a Spoon bar, which I would have thought was stronger than that. The subframe isn't bent, and thats only an RSX bar. I looked at it, thinking maybe something hit it, but it doesn't look like it. Me and my friend are looking at making our own reinforcement frame, similar to the progress one, or I'm gonna call Comptech and find out if they sell the brace bracket separate from the sway bar kit. This just pisses me off.

They're JIC Magic, but that has no bearing in this. The only way that bar can give way is in straight compression. This has me a little worried, so its time to make my own... Solid Chrome Moly

Try using the neuspeed REAR LOWER TIE BAR in conjunction with a spoon bolt on type tie bar or the one you are planning to make. Just a thought.

I take it the spoon bar is hollow? I've never really known spoon products to, oh, whats a good way to say it... Well it's always seemed like it was more about image.
That comptech setup looks pretty swank, but even if they just sold the tie bar, $$$
The comptech sub-frame reinforcement bar alone retails at $300. This is the exact same bar that is included in the swaybar/tie bar combo. I have the part # if you still want it. The only thing i can really think of is that maybe you ran over a cone... at the right angle and speed, it is more than capable of doing damage.

If I hit a cone and it made it all the way back there, I think I would have heard it, and it would have showed up on the timing sheets. Since niether occured and there are no scratch marks on the bar, I think its safe to say I didn't hit anything. If I did... it more than likely wouldn't be bent straight up, it would be bent back as well.

Need I remind you that Ron's current car has almost 223K on the clock, his old one had over 4.
And no I don't care how long it lasts, I just want it to stay in 1 piece for now.
Development of a chro-moly replacement is under way, and we're going to FEA it first.

I just looked at it really close after polishing it... At somepoint, something hit the bar... but it looks like it just scraped the bottom, looks pretty old (it was corroded), and its on the other side from where the actual bend is now. Thats kind of odd, because you'd think if it got weakened, it would be where it bent. I don't know whats up. With it. The bend is completely smooth, which is better than a kink... if it kinked the bar pretty much just gave way. I wonder if it just got overstressed and is too tight. I tried relieving it a little bit by turning out the threaded end a turn, we'll see if it straightens it self back out. This seems a little odd to me, but we'll see what happens. Even if it rights itself, I'm still making one without a threaded rod end.

I'd replace it rather then see if it straightens out. Biggest issue with aluminum as a structural part, every time it flexes it cracks. So every time it bends it gets weaker.

I'm making 2 of them. 1 Temporary one that reuses the Spoon Endplates, but without the threaded end, and a second one that is 1 solid piece that bolts straight into the subframe, quite possibly with a direct swaybar reinforcement cradle built right in. But I need something to replace that. As soon as I have Chrome-moly and a Mill, I'm on it.
