How do you take Tie Rod End Off? (Mbow?)
Ive been trying to put on my Koni inserts for the last 2 weeks, and that is how long my car has been in the shop. I've run into impossible stripped bolts, unmovable tie bars, and a lot of money for repairs. Well I tore the boot pretty badly on the tie rod end, so I bought another one. I've given up on doing that koni's cuz after hours of banging on the tie rod, it still won't come off. I've tried rethreading the tie rod end with 10 mm x1.25 and 10mm x 1.50 die and they both didn't work. The tie rod is held on by that wide bolt on the end right? Standing in front of the brake caliper, what direction should I be turning it in? I've tried both counterclockwise and clockwise with vice-grips and that thing won't come off still. Can anyone tell me the direction to turn in, and any tools that can help me get it off? I read that Mbow has done it before, but he hasn't answered my PM's and I really need to fix this soon. Anyone who has taken the tie rod end off before or fixed the threads please help, I'm pretty desperate here. My car has been in the garage for 2 1/2 weeks.

Rep Power: 395 Allright, do this... Do not take the tie rod end out of the strut assembly. Keep it in there. Now use a large monkey wrench and put it on that nut behind the tie rod end. Put some gloves on for protection 'cause you'll bang your knuckles up when the nut comes loose. It's a regular right-hand thread. Simply turn counter-clockwise. Hope this helps...

The tie-rod end has a locking nut like Grey said. Loosen the locking nut first by turning it clockwise a small amount. Now the tie-rod end ball joint should be lose enough to remove by turning it counter clockwise.

Rep Power: 292 still no luck, and I think I'm stripping the nut behind the tie rod, thats no good. I've tried rethreading the bolt on the tie rod end to no avail. I've tried smashing the 10 mm bolt on and trying to force it on too. 7/8 of the threads on the bolt are gone and it still won't fit. Ohhh god, with my car it's always a "I've never seen anything like this before."
