my new Brake setup, my stops just got lighter, cooler and stylish

So after a my past few track events, i realized how inconvenient it is to have your brakes stop working on you. it's partially because of my poor choice of pads, but still, i've been on the tracks with hawk hp+ along with motul rbf600 and it would still fade on me. i felt especially bad for my 10.2 inch rotors which too the worst beating of heat.

I decided that it was time to upgrade. after much thinking, i decided i'm tired of thinking wayyy too much and make it more simple for myself. i decided to got with a brake kit that had rotors effective enough to keep cool, reliable set of calipers, asthetically apealing, cost friendlier, and most of all effective.

i went with Fastbrake's wilwood superlite caliper with 12.2 rotors. brian from fastbrakes is the nicest guy i've delt with and he answered all of my question. i decided to go with this kit because i didn't want the lesser dynalite calipers, which also looked too tiny. it also had a 12.2 inch rotor which is between the 11.75 and 13 inch, was scared that the 11.75 might look too small and i didnt want the 13 inch because of that extra-extra weight and didnt want it that big. 1.2 would do just right.

for this kit i need to shave off abouy 3mm off the bottom side of the caliper mounts on the knuckle, but nothing a dremel cant fix! i've just test fitted it and the dimensions are just perfect, no more no less. i have to say that brian did a great job designing this. this entirely weight about 36 pounds, i will weight the stock brake system as soon as i get them off.

anywayss.s.......

TO SOME PICS!:
these are some pics i took of the test fit, as you might notice, there is a socket holding the caliper from falling. will take better and *cleaner* pics this weekend. enjoy!

here is picture of my buddy club rsds... >:]

As you can see below, this is what and how i shaved the upper caliper mount, took time to make sure it was clean cut, and perfect fit, eliminating any unneccesary shaving.

and wilwoods on my car

there you go thats wilwood on a 7th gen civic

What's the smallest wheel you can fit? 15, 16 or 17?

Do you/should you change out the proportioning valve or upgrade the master cylinder for those?

Re: my new Brake setup, my stops just got lighter, cooler and stylish

haha my mother doesnt have to know it was on the table... i also put it in the sink and wash it with the dishes.

i havent heard of much good things about rotora's... i'm pretty sure they're more show than performance. heard some rumors about them failing, but that's not for me to decide. i went wilwoods because they have been used in many race cars and brian from fast brakes told me they are closely proportioned to stock calipers, i have just put the on and they feel the same as stock proportioned. also, i dont need 13 inch rotors

i've been told that this kit MAY fit certain 15's.... but it hasnt been determined. the adapter bracket he sent me is made to fit the 11.75 rotor at the very edge or the 12.2 rotor in about 1/5 inch closer inward. the 12.2 is designed to fit 16's, most of them... as for the spokes to the caliper, there is about 1/2 inch clearance.... so plenty.

the proportioning on the wilwoods seem the same as stock, so no proportioning valve needed, plus i dont want to mess with proportioning valves, because i dont want to risk throwing the proportion, in general, out of wack. i'm thinkng that there might be a slight bias in the front, but nothing that is noticable or that bothers me, if anything, i'll add higher friction pads in the rear, but not yet neccesary. as for the brake booster, dont need to upgrade, at least what i was told.

about 4 hours ago, i just finished putting them on. i needed to shave off some of the upper mount on the knuckle that connects to the caliper. i bought a dremel (well worth) and used a diamond coated bit wihch worked well. that took about 15min each side. the rest was easy and straight forward. the hardest part of it all was changing out the lines and bleeding...... boy do i hate anything that involves brake fluid....

will post pictures soon.

Re: my new Brake setup, my stops just got lighter, cooler and stylish

yup you got it, i took pictures of the part i shaved down, not to hard a job, just alot of shaving and test fitting. review after my track day coming up april 18th, so until then, all i have to say is that it sure does look sexy having 4 pots and discs that fill the wheels.

oh btw, i was seriously pondering the 11 inch upgrade from the DC2R, but decided that since it's 650 for the kit, might as well just pay 450 more and get something a little less stock. also, i wasnt sure exactly how well 11 inches would hold up heat, better safe with 1.2 more inches of the diameter.

i will also weigh my stock brake assemble hopefully sometime soon for an accurate weight comparison. by hand, the two piece rotor actually wasnt that far off from the stock weight and as for the caliper, the wilwoods were lighter than stock.

Hey guys, if you are considering purchasing a BBK like such, or the DC2R 11 inch upgrade, go FASTBRAKES.com, Brain is a great guy and offers amazing products. plus my kit is more efficient than other brand name kits for much less.

anymore questions about this kit, feel free to post, i'll be happy to answer any question about it.

also thanks for positive comments

This is great, for a while, I was kinda left in the dark about big brake kits, it's nice to see that you got one that you're happy with.

Man, fastbrakes sucks. I've been trying to get in touch with them for over a week now and they NEVER answer the phone. I sent an email asking specific questions and just got a generic answer. Lame.
