225/65R17 how to make it fit
225/65R17 how to make it fit
So long story short I am a just getting into the honda civic scene and bought a 05 LX Coupe around a month later I managed to pick up a set of RTX Arsenic's which are 17x7 which happen to also have 225/65r17 tires on them for 450 including mounting and balancing and wanna know the best plan of attack to get them to fit I know the fenders may need rolling but my current issue is clearing the Shock in the front haven't had a chance to try the back yet any and all help would be appreciated and yes I'm well aware my 7th Gen will look like a damn monster truck

Flip the tires on craigslist and put on some 215/45-17s. 215/45 is about the limit of what you can fit on a 7thgen. 225/65's are huuuuuuuugggggeeeeeeee, especially with that 65 sidewall. That's like.. truck tire sizing..
If you're really set on that 225 treadwidth, you could try squeezing 225/45s.
Just out of curiosity, what's the offset on those rims you grabbed?

+40mm offset there 17x7 they fit in the wheel wells perfect but they are touching the shockz in the front without being bolted on haven't had a chance to try the back yet my theory is spacers

Re: 225/65R17 how to make it fit
That is what i have on my CX-5, the windows start where the roof of the civic is.
225/45 does not fit the rear of these civics, much less the 225/65
should be visible that they don't fit.
or you can remove shocks, solid weld the suspension and remove rear quarters and front fender, maybe cut off the front wheel wells too.
in other words, they don't fit. Can't believe I need to tell you that

Re: 225/65R17 how to make it fit
factual information - users tried the 225/45R17 and did not fit the rear of these cars.
a decade ago.
they don't fit unless you do something drastic.
do you understand suspension moves? the tire will be above the front fender and hood when compressed. Physically impossible, should be obvious visually.

suspension moves. it compresses. front wheels need to turn.
rear is even tighter.
picture makes it even clearer that it don't fit
remove springs, push the tire up to see when it starts interfering with other things,, check how much stroke is left to see how hard it will bang when you hit a bump. turn the wheel to see where it will hit.
you nare gonna need to gut way more than the fenders, front and rear.

Both of you calm tf down.
Long story short op, it ain't gonna work unless you cut the fenders and get some huge spacers, so big that they would def be a safety hazard.
215 or thinnervon the treadwidth. Biggest the 7thgen works with is 215/45s

Of course you take the admins side only further supports my theory that you guys represent the toxic side of the enthusiast crowd lmfao have either one of you personally tried to fit the tire and rim combination i have on any generation of civic nvm a 7th hmmm i highly doubt it seeing as the stories changed from its not possible to id need to modify my fenders and get ridiculous spacers kinda contradictory no? Frankly I have better stuff to do then argue with know it all wannabe car guys I've successfully found not one but 2 solutions to my fitment problems that's without swapping the tires or saftey hazard spacers 25-30mm of offset solves the shock problem I know what the biggest size tire that someone has successfully put on a 7th Gen I wanted information on how I'd go about trying to make my rim and tire combo fit which would therefore be the biggest tires put on a civic at stock height ill be removing my account from my phone but leaving this thread for y'all to remember next time a young enthusiast asks a question that way you have a live example on WHAT NOT TO DO AGAIN😂

for reference to others, this is back in 2005 on a 225/45R16 and some responses based on 225/45R17, already showing there are problems. Even worse for 225/65R17

Re: 225/65R17 how to make it fit
to those wondering why we say this is not going to work without major gutting?
This case involves the width (known, see above post) but also the tire OD, which is even bigger change.
when suspension compresses, the tire will simply smash through the plastic wheel well and go smash right into the metal chassis above. There will be no gap. See pic below
options?
add that to interference when turning a wider, taller tire. Wheel well, suspension parts, chassis
I could not find a cut off rear quarter pic of a 7th gen, but same metal obstacles are under the rear quarter.

options?
- lift suspension - but there are no known makers for lifted civics
- cut off the chassis - will weaken the upper chassis where the suspension mounts are - ill advised.
