Rep Power: 0 Time for new tires. need advice
Currently I have 205/40/17 yokohama parada spec2 tires and I want to go with somthing different this time around. I like the way they stick but their tread life is short and road noise is pretty bad. I want to go with a 205/45/17 this time. I want somthing more "all season" this time that will still have good grip but wear better and less road noise. I want to stay around 110.00 a tire. Any suggestions? Thanks

Rep Power: 323 Go 215/40R17. Thicker sidewall then 205/40. As for the actual tire, I got Continental ContiextremeContacts, which was 117/tire from Wal-Mart special ordered. They're all season rated, and even have excellent snow grip.

Rep Power: 0 What are the advantages of a 215/40/17 over a 205/45/17. My main objective is tread life and road noise. I'll get some serious street tires when I do my engine swap which will be in the next few years.

Rep Power: 323 I have 215/45R17's on my car. I hate the way they look. The tires look way too thick for my liking. Going from a 205/40 like I had to these ones was quite an adjustment. Also when I lowered my car the tires rubbed on the rear fender lip and on the front under turning. If you look at a tire calculator,
The 205/40 sidewall is 3.2 inches high and makes the speedo -2.5 MPH off.
215/40's are 3.4 inches high and make your speedo -1.6 MPH off.
205/45's are 3.6 inches high and make your speedo -.5 MPH off.
215/45's are 3.8 inches high and make your speedo +.5 MPH.
The reason I want to go with 215/40's is that it is a lower profile then 215/45 (I've seen them in person, the difference is quite visible) The road noise isn't that much more noticeable with the 205/40's on, I've driven with both and I could only detect slightly less noise with my 215/45's on
Tread life has more to do with the tire construction, how you drive, and if you keep your car in alignment.

If you are able to SEE a 215/24 on a RIM, the tire sora "hangs over" the edge of the rim. ( to protect from curbing & aditional handling)
205/40 Wont have the "extra" edge.
Did that even make any sence????
01honder is correct also, Less noise with 215's! IMO

Rep Power: 0 I'd suggest for a good Z rated (all season) I'd go with the Falken Ziex 512
I've got them on my car and they have a treadwear rating of 320 or 360 or something great like that.
Basically they're a Z that is warrantied for up to 40,000km's.
Check those out ... I like'em

Rep Power: 0 Yup ... this is the 3rd season ... and theres at least half of the tire still left. I only drive low km's per summer season anyways ... BUT ... I know guys that have gone through entire full sets of Z's since I've had mine ...
So $$$ in my pocket = good.

if you are getting Falken 512's then www.vulcantire.com is by far the cheapest place.
