Let's start simple:

SAT Analogies

Disc brakes : Pads :: Drum brakes : Shoes

You want to change out the brake shoes. Drums don't have "pads" like discs.

You must disassemble the drum brake. They're all about the same (drum brakes that is) so you should be able to look at any Haynes/Chilton type manual and figure it out. If I had better instructions, I'd help you out, but I'm afraid that I don't.

Hope this helps a little bit.

u should prob have somekind of manual n e way i have the dealer one!! hahaha i got lucky. just cuz there new to the site doesnt mean there noobs to cars. and as for the rear drums i havent done mine yet but "in gneral" with your tire off there will either be no screws or two going through the outer plate. if so remove, than pull the outer plate off usually needs some persuasion, aka hammer. and just cuz there's dust doesnt mean u need new shoes.

PicCoLoboi02 is on a distinguished road
i'm not sure if these are the right directions but i saw my mechanic do it...
-you take like a bolt and practically stab it in the rear drum (it seemed like it was really soft...make sure your e-brake isn't up)
-than you take an open end wrench and unscrew it out till it gets loose and than the rear drum should come on loose and you'll see the inside of the and get to the "shoes"

guys, this is so easy. take the wheels off. Use a putty knife and a screwdriver to remove that gold center cover on the drum. Use a punch to un-detent the big nut under it (if you get this far you will see what I mean). Un screw the nut. the drum falls apart in your hands. Clean the dust out with brake cleaner. Inspect the shoes. If they need to be replaced (1.6mm is minimum spec, new is around 6mm I think) swap them with new ones. Clean everything real good with the brake cleaner and reset the little ratcheting tensioner. When you put the nut back on, it gets torqued to like 130lb/ft but get the exact spec from your dealer so you dont screw it up. detent the nut so it doesnt come off. tap the cover back on. put the wheel on and torque the lugs to 80lb/ft. your done. easy stuff maybe an hour for both sides and you get to inspect the rear suspension yourself rather then trusting some hack at the dealer. once I get some cash to get another set of pads and shoes I'll do a full DIY with pics. I havent seen one on here before

why do you pull the spindle nut off? I don't see how that would help.
