Is short shifter worth doing?
Hello, I have a '99 Civic LX and it is in mint condition. I really want to install a short shifter, but I was advised against it because it will wear out the transmission. And since my transmission is in great shape, it would be hard to find another and wouldn't be worth it. Someone else told me that I can just change the way I shift to wear it less but I'm not sure if I should do it. It is my year round daily driver and I won't be tracking it.
Re: Is short shifter worth doing?
Short Shifters are merely pivot point changers. It changes the pivot point on the shifter and thus allows for less throw (movement) and has no effect on the transmission itself as far as wear goes.
Re: Is short shifter worth doing?
i have a short shifter on my 98 ex and its really nice im not a fan of a lot of travel between gear since it makes me think im gonna miss one for some reason, you can definitely get some quicker shifts too if thats what you are into. i've never personally felt the stock in this car though since mine came with a short shifter but ive driven my buddys 06 civic and i definitely prefer mine, but its all preference in the end, i recommend it personally though.
