SHORT SHIFTER pls help me
i know there is a short shifter which you change the entire shift stick while there is a short shifter adaptor which uses the stock shift and clamps it right? which is better? does the height of the shift **** lessen when i use the short shifter adaptor? will changing the entire shifter stick make shifting a bit harder or does it still feel like stock? please help me thanks! im choosing between neuspeed or DC which do you think is better? thanx i really need your help in choosing what to buy.

This entire site is biased towards the Revo Technica short shifter for our car. It is a simple install as it replaces the entire shift assembly and a couple members here have made two kits to rid us of some of the "play" in the shifter. I bought my Revo from Rob at RobearRacing...Here's the link: http://www.tornactive.com/cat_civic7.cfm
The majority of 7thgeners on this site use that shifter and it comes highly recommended from us all.
PM me if you need any help.

I got the Neuspeed shifter, it's simply an adaptor that bolts onto the stock stick. I was pissed off when I saw it. That means the tranny may not fully enage into the gears and that could ruin the syncros. But I never read up on if it actually affects the tranny or not, I just threw it away I was so pissed at it. Get the one where the whole shift stick is replaced, that won't do anything but make for shorter throws and that doesn't hurt the tranny unless you grind the gears or something.

what they all said. Don't waste your money on an adapter. Haven't seen or heard of anyone buying the Neuspeed but it seems like that would be more hassle than just using the Revo and replacing the whole thing. Wanna be the guinea pig, go for it
***does the height of the shift **** lessen when i use the short shifter adaptor?
Not with an adaptor, no. All it does is change the angle that the shift cables attach to the stick. No height change at all.
***will changing the entire shifter stick make shifting a bit harder or does it still feel like stock?
Does NOT feel like stock...otherwise what would be the point? Makes the throws, i.e. the distance between gear engagement...shorter. With a full replacement kit the height of the stick is shorter as well.

well I had the neuspeed. it works fine, compared to say DC. at least more solid in terms of install, cuz once u get it on.. its not going to come off via any vibration.
it does shorten the throw, just like the revo.. but the shift stick isnt shorter so it gives less result.
u'll need to drill ur stock shifter to install the neuspeed, so there's a con (or pro in terms of stability of adapter)
neuspeed's fine, the reason why they went with adapter is because thats teh easiest way to change the shift characteristic, and they probably didn't see making the whole assembly as a worthwhile investment (especially when they dont source oversea manufactures, they manufacture their own parts)
and the method B&M went for, cost more and isn't as practical (B&M ss is release pending i believe? or its out already *shrug*)
anyways I had the neuspeed and in like 2 days I got used to the different short throw. or in fact maybe the very same day. I got it cuz I didn't want to reduce my shift height at that time..
eventually i swapped to the Revo and sold my neuspeed. the revo was definitely more fun. although shifting, like many other modification, is personal preference. lots of people prefer the stock smooth shifting, etc. over the stiffer short shifter shifting feel.
even though u're gonna get the neuspeed for free, u'll probably be surprised at how little change it is, and how much of a pain it was to install. lol. thats how I felt, and I paid for it!
as for the bushing, it makes the assembly more solid to the chassis so it gets rid of play in assembly.
grey's kit reduces play in the shifter linkage to the adapter, and extra parts to help the install.

^^^ he's right. Installation is a bitch, the instruction are not for my car either.
I am currently stock and will prolly stay that way. When I want to shift faster, I simply grab lower down on the assemably, in the boot area. Has worked for me in the past I think it still does.

^^You don't neccesarily need them, but they are cheap and they make a huge difference from what I have heard if you are looking to eliminate some of the "play." The kits I think are only $26 shipped together and Capyoda and Grey are great about getting them out quickly. They come highly recommended from me and I'm going to out on a whim here and say that the rest of the site recommends using them too. Search for threads where members talk about using these revo upgrade kits...I haven't seen a negative comment yet.

The revo is straight drop in; it isn't hard to install at all if you can turn a wrench. If you go with the revo, make sure you get the mounting bushings since you will have the shifter assembly off anyway.

CapYoda is also right that I don't think it will help that muc with shifting. Personally I would just use his set up in the first place and be done with it.
