newbie modder looking for tips!
Hi all newb here but first off wondering if anyone can recommend good Canadian (preferably Ontario or anywhere with free shipping in Canada) reliable and good selection of aftermarket parts.
Not planning on doing alot, but do want some spring suspensions to probably lower only 1 or 2 inches max ( dont want to drive that in snow), LED headlights but I've read that in Ontario, Canada they changed laws and need advice on making sure the light doesnt spread and stays below a certain level.
Also pretty much the basics, front body kit maybe with a fog light build, basic hoods or I might just get an OEM hood as mine is completely paint drived and oxydized
Wondering if there are side mirrors with outside lights available or any custom built ones
wheels etc
Please do let me know thanks!

I don't know about shipping but if you're near Toronto, JDM Addiction has all sorts of aftermarket parts.
I've bought fog light kits, led bulbs, exhaust kits, and rad hose kits from Amazon.
For the led lights you'll want to either buy projector housings or retrofit your stock housings.

Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
ya i am in toronto lol either that or like nextmod but im not going for premium special products just some entry level simply low costing ones.
nice i shoudl check amazon the problem is limited selection like i want to get a headlight retrofitkit projector but theres only like 2 lol
which exhaust did you get? you didnt get the yonakas? and btw my hood is so old its oxidized and im planning on repainting. is there a way to just sand remove the oxidization part?

Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
Theretrofitsource.com? If you want to go that route and use a quality product.
Hood you can try to sand down and re-clear/repaint.
Otherwise check junkyards. Car-part.com saves you wandering around.
The exhaust was for my 2000 coupe, the only reason I bought it was because it was cheaper than buying an oe replacement exhaust from rockauto. And it showed up the next day instead of a week later. It's fine, definitely not "stainless" as claimed. But decent quality for a $200 catback system. Had to weld in the silencer for the muffler, it was incredibly loud and obnoxious otherwise. There was little Allen bolts to hold it in but they didn't hold very well so it vibrated.

Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
most aftermarket projector headlights suck in light output, stock lights better.
so you would end up needing a morimoto retrofit anyway from TRS ^
You can try the TRS site anyway for LED bulbs - they don't offer bulbs that do not work on your car stock headlights. They do test them.
Eibach Pro were fine in my 2002 in Montreal snow - got some tough days where I was the first one before the plower passed.... - these are a 1" drop

Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
so apparently when I wash the car or water the hood looks like new glossy and no issues with paint (cracking or oxidation through the paint base) so that means I can just polish a little or use maybe 1500 - 2000 sand paper and just lightly smooth it out then just spray 2k clear coating again? im hoping. I also have some rust on the side wheel fenders but whatever
I just want to start saving and getting some mods ASAP

ya im trying to save as much as possible but that Yonaka catback sounds PERFECT so imma be saving up for that and its not that much for stainless steal which will last. oh btw has anyone here heard of the recent law changes to auto mods such as lighting, exhaust, etc? I heard its more strict now but I still see so many modded cars

haha i cant see the car but prob looks nice. ya dont need much of a drop probably going with Teins hopefully they are reliable as stated. but honestly I wanted to just get lowering springs but I dont have the knowledge or time to go through finding proper struts etc
btw what are good guides here for suspension and exaust changes? I dont have a shop that I can just go to so i want to DIY but i also dont have tools lol
and what do you mean OEM lights are better? so i can get the retrofit kits but keep the original bulbs? seems like HID or LEDs are better right? but also from what i searched few years ago, Civic 2001 es1 cant use LEDS? can only be HID right
but if you guys have good recommendations for HIDs and Retrokits retailers instead of Amazon please do let me know
Im also looking into a front bumper, side skirt, back skirt, maybe a spoiler replacement (currently have OEM)

wtf i just checked TRS and they used to have projector kits available for Honda Civic 01 es1 but now they dont have them any more? or do I have to find the housing and the headlight system myself but only get the LED/HID bulbs from them?

like mentioned before by me and others, the retrofit source Website is the place to go. They have plenty of videos in youtube also
Major problem for LED replacement is the position of the leds - they can be in different position compared to a stock bulb filament, causing all the issues of spreading light too much where there is no need for light.
for lightning, we have a different section in the forums with some sticky threads at the top with important info. You seem to need a better understanding of HID, BTW... TRS is pretty fast in answering question by email too, but do watch some of their youtube videos first...

Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
HID (from TRS) - they need clear lenses without the refraction in the stock lenses, the projector lenses do the light distribution
Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
not TRS video, but this explains well the LED positioning issue

nice thanks ! im watching now, oh ya ive seen they just take the OEM headlight casing housing spray black it out and then use projector shrouds and LED that way so it can control the light but I do like some of the aftermarket styles
im worried because I believe in Ontario Canada we have to have orange signal lights? so if im looking at headlight housing that doesnt have pre-built orange frames do I just need to get Orange LEDs for the signals?

Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
for stock 7th gen, LED is only a replacement bulb... What is available is the morimoto projector HID.
Simply swapping a LED bulb in there without checking might make the reflector/front lenses disperse light where it is not needed.
stock case, the reflector behind and the front (exterior) lens do the distribution and depends a lot on where the filament is located.
retrofitting a projector in the stock case is not advisable, the front lens will try to refract the light, need to be a smooth clear lens at the front.

oh yes becuase the entire housing lens is designed to disperse light from the OEM halogen bulbs. well I will call and ask them for entirely new housing and then get an LED projector suitable for that specific housing hopefully
I went on TRS and searched for 01 Civic ES1 but they only gave me bulbs, no housing or projector kits recommended so not sure what is implied here...meaning I just plug-n-play the LED light bulbs on OEM housing but thats problematic?

but most get a new aftermarket headlight with projectors somewhere, remove the projector and installs the morimoto mini.
this is the set i bought from xriceboyx, clear lenses and morimoto retrofit
Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
because the stock headlight is no good for any offerings of led bulb replacement

do they have them in black and chrome so the signal and parking isnt amber/orange plated frame? so are those housing the default original socket for the bulbs to be inserted and you dont need to modify them to make the diameter/circumference of the opening to be bigger to allow the morimoto mini?
ill just go that route to be safe and HID systems are so difficult to wire together.
could I potentially use these housings:

Re: newbie modder looking for tips!
xriceboyx is a member here, i bought the setup from him, he is not a headlight maker/seller.
also, the bulbs are amber (safety), not the lenses
concerning the 3 options you listed, ask TRS, they might know
if you go the HID route, need to understand the system, you are going to need ballasts for the HID
