2008 Civic AC intermittently starts

Hi everyone,

I know there are about a million threads aboutthis issue, and I’ve read lots of posts but not sure what to do. Lots of threads it was seem to be those that have AC that starts cold and goes warm which isn’t what I’m having.

My Civic has an issue in which the compressor clutch randomly does not engage to start the AC. When it does engage, the air conditioning seems to run just fine. I tried replacing the relay, and when I turned the AC on a handful of times, everything started working properly (maybe coincidence). Now it’s back to the way it was: if I turn on the AC it doesn’t seem to work. Randomly when driving it’ll start working and it’ll remain working for hours until I shut it off again when I park. Just seems like when you turn it on, it sometimes won’t actually turn on. I can keep trying to turn it off and then on and it’ll eventually work nonstop.

Any ideas on what to troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the compressor Relay. It should be located in the relay panel and if your lucky can hear a click when its turned on or at least feel it by hand.
