AC cutting in and out

So it was snowing again on the Grapevine section of I5 in southern california yesterday. I've never driven the civic into below freezing temps before. Anyways, i know that the AC doesnt work under below freezing temps. Now my question, how do you guys defrost the windshield in below freezing temps. While driving i had the heat and ac on, but the car started fogging up every once in awhile over the grapevine cuz the AC wasnt running. Any advice from people from snow country (Canada, northeast, north west). Ive driven in the snow many times before in our van to areas such as lake tahoe. Somehow we never had that issue of the ac shutting down or defrost issues in below freezing weather. So advice?

you gotta let the ac run till the fog goes away then turn the ac off.

Same here, old cars didnt have AC and defog on so no point of turning it on when defogging, only removes humidity faster but uses alittle more gas and robbing the little bit of power that we have.

the heat should work fine. you need to angle the vents to the windows and use the rear defroster. it still turns the ac belt even tho the ac doesn't work (compressor).
