Oil filter question

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me what size oil filter is needed for an 02 1.4 civic please?
I need to do an oil change but when I looked for filters it had 2 options. A short and stubby version and a longer and slimmer version.
My girlfriend overfilled it by a litre at least by the looks of it so I dont want to drive it.
Can you see the filter without lifting the car at all?

Re: Oil filter question

Get under the car and measure the oil filter height and circumference. Check measurements against the two options you mentioned.

Re: Oil filter question

Thanks for the reply mate. It was a bit of a tricky one to get at so I took an educated guess instead and it was the correct one so all good.

Re: Oil filter question

Honda filters are standardized unlike inferior domestic pos cars, lol.

before 2001 you can cross reference off of this number,
OF4459 (as in "oscar" "franklin" 4459). About 4" diameter, 4.5" tall.

2000+ is OF4622. About 2.75" diameter, 3" tall.

Threading is the same so either will work. Older cars burnt more, so there filters are bigger; if you use the big one, you'll have to add a bit.

Some aftermarket filters are larger than OEM, which is fine, the threading for basically all hondas/Acura is the same, just check your level, after starting the vehicle, and turning it off again.
