Hey guys,

I'm wondering how many miles should our cars have until we should change our fuel filters? Just a maintence issue. Thanks.

There is no set mileage of fuel filter change. If you feel your car is not reacting even when you cleaned your fuel injectors, oil changed, spark plugs changed, trainsmission fluid changed then you have narrowed down to fuel filter problem. Fuel filter is not part of your common maintenance list. You should check this during your next major tune up.

I'm approaching 40k and I'm gonna change it just to make me feel better. Besides. . if you keep the filter clean you improve the life of your pump.

Man, that's overkill for a part that doesn't need to be changed so often, and a part that's not exactly easy to change either (gotta remove the rear seats and remove the fuel pump) ... but if you don't mind the money and hassle, go for it.

isnt there a fuel filter under the hood? or is it really under the rear seats by the gas tank?
does anyone have a DIY on this, i'd like to do mine too!

most of the time, changing the fuel filter is a "feel good" maintance, it's pretty much whenever you want to do, that will make you feel good

fuel filters can last quite a while, but under heavy load and tempature conditions, it's recommened to change once per 1-2 years

the fuel filter is near the gas tank

Yes, it's under the rear seats. Not sure if there's a DIY on this site for that job.

Well I assume I'll be a pioneer and make the DIY when I do it.

Here is something interesting. The guy at the dealership said the filter is a lifetime part and that I didn't need to change it, ever.

That doesn't seem right, does it? Gas is some unfiltered, unpure crap and that filter has to get bad sometime. right? Anyways. I know that going too long before changing the filiter puts some unnecessary strain the fuel pump, because it has to work harder to get the fuel through the filter when too much crap is built up in there. So . .I didn't buy one when I was at the dealer, but I think I'm going to get one anyways. Does anyone know a place to pick one up? Thanks again..

it's difficult to kill a fuel filter, so the tech is some what right

you don't have to go to honda to pick one up, your local pep boys, autozone and advance discount should have it

the only time i saw a dead fuel filter, was from a 1985 buick somerset, that thing was a pos with rusted exhaust and the whole 9 yards, we ran a solution through it one end, and nothing came out from the other. remind you this solution is for cleaning out the gunk and muck in engines

when you install the fuel filter, makesure you have the direction right, must go on the way it suppose to

Performing necromancy on this thread depends on how old the car is. My 93 HB had the fuel filter under the hood it's at the top back near battery behind the throttle body. But in My dad's 99 accord the car design engineers desided to put them much closer to fuel tank, in some cases in them making it a real pain to change them instead of it taking about 10 minutes of it's just under the hood. So somewherein late90s they started not putting them under the hood and closer to or in fuel tank.
