How often do you change your oil?
How often do you change your oil?
I have a 2013 Civic. Still runs like a dream, and I wanna keep it that way. It has 90K+ miles. I commute 60 miles a day M-F. I drive mellow, not rough.
My "Change Oil" reminder comes up every 8500+ miles. Since I changed oil every 3000 miles in previous cars, I've always felt funny about changing my oil in my 2013 Civic every almost 9000 miles, as stated above.
Is this normal? Can you relate? Is changing my oil every 8500+ miles healthy for my Civic? Yea, the car tell me to wait till then, so it should be ok, but still, how does your experience compare??
Helpful, positive comment are welcome.
Snarky comment not welcome.
Thank you.

Re: How often do you change your oil?
8500 is perfectly fine if you are using a good quality synthetic. If it was a turbo engine I might run shorter intervals but it depends on the engine. Honda’s don’t seem to shear oil that bad.

I have a 2015 EX. I change my oil about every 5000 miles. I base my change schedule on mileage. I have a reminder set at 4500 miles in MyCarfax. I go by mileage out of habit and mistrust of having someone else or some app monitor a vital function for me. I always used 3000 miles also but with today's oils and engine materials, I'm comfortable with 5000. Some oil companys recommends up to 15000 per oil change. Not for me,
I dont use Maint Minder for oil but the service manager at my Honda house said it uses several variables to turn on the indicator. He was very vague but he says it checks how hard you've been driving to do the calc. So if you've been driving mellow you probably ok.

Re: How often do you change your oil?
For my GTI I go 7500 but I also use a more premium full synthetic since it’s modified. The Pilot gets synthetic but a more basic one.
