Do you suggest the same course of action for a 2009 LX with 317K, too? That's what I have and also have the understanding that the transmissions of super high mileage vehicles work better with the additional friction provided by the impurities of old fluid and might actually start slipping once it's changed...

Re: Transmission fluid

When was the last time the ATF had a drain and fill of Honda DW-1 in that 317K interval? Recommended every 30K miles to have a drain and fill.

Good possibility it's been 200k ago, unfortunately. I'm also interested in changing the inline transmission fluid filter and would appreciate your input on that. I'm sure the filter has never been changed.

Re: Transmission fluid

Since your Civic is a 2009, I would suggest you search the 8th gen Forum section for advice on this topic. It is risky changing ATF in a Honda trans that hasn't been changed regularly.

I did transmission fluid flush on my 2001 Civic close to 200k mi. I doubt there was any trans fluid change earlier. The fluid vas dirty. Also installed trans. inline filter. No change in driving after the flush. I don't know if the trans. inline filter have a bypass valve to let the fluid through when gets clogged.

Thanks for the info as that's encouraging! Do you remember what fluid you used?

It was synthetic suitable for Honda from Walmart (Red 5 or 4 qt. jar)
I am not planning to change it ever again on this car. It will last longer than the life of the car.
