Hi everyone. I will be taking a road trip to Texas this weekend, and it will be roughly 2000 miles. My 2012 Civic (~85000 miles) is due for oil change June 22, but I still have 50% oil life remaining according to the system maintenance display in the car. Should I change my oil before this long trip or should I let it eat some miles and wait until 15% oil left? Thanks!!
You'll be fine, it's mostly highway.
The minder tracks the type of driving that's being done. The actual range it tells you between changes could be anywhere from 3k miles, to 10k miles.
(Or more, or less...not really sure how short or far it will stretch)

Apparently I went almost 7k miles during the trip
So my total mileage on the oil was very close to 10k miles, still was not at 15% yet though!

7,000 u.s.a miles is the max on synthetic oil to go in my opinion.
The minder system oil life calculation is reportedly conservative, so if I know for certain it has the correct spec oil in it, I'd run it. Make sure all the vital fluids are full and hit the road.
I'd also check the oil level at fuel stops during the trip-- out of habit.
(If you get JizzyLube or Wallymart oil changes where you have no idea what oil is really in there, I wouldn't do it.)

Civic1991 why ? is the Honda You go to using
a synthetic blend 0w20 oil..? I can understand the 0w20 because
of tight tolerances & fuel econo and emmisions. but in a synthetic blend.?
that's like getting just half if not less than the protection if you were to use a synthetic oil. Your much better off running a good synthetic oil and synthetic oil filter

All 0w20 is considered synthetic blend, or better.
Honda approved dealer bulk 0w20 oil is synthetic blend.
It's great oil, most engines can live a long healthy life on it following the MM suggested intervals without lubrication related failures. (Owner needs to check oil level once in a while though, same as with any other.)
Full synthetic (usually bottled) should also be available at dealers......of course it's probably sold for a higher price.
We keep Honda labeled full syn and Mobil-1 in stock, but almost nobody buys the Honda labeled stuff.
I personally don't see any additional benefit in paying extra for full syn these days. JMHO.
BUT I buy Mobil-1 V-Twin 20w50 by the case for my Harley LOL
in my opinion most people tend to over think oil changes,
your chances of an oil related failure in these engines is next to zero, even if you go 1-2k past suggested intervals, unless your letting your oil level get severely low

ezone some Honda dealers will push that semi-synthetic oil to keep costs
down for costumers that follow Hondas oil monitoring system as far as %
goes to change it. what bothers me is Honda uses a in car programed oil %
montoring oil system based on "Normal duty driving" what
about outside ambient extreme humid or cold temps or combined under hood temps.? it cant measure hours in traffic like farm equipment can? so what good is it.? oil monitoring systems should be monitoring under sever duty NOT a one size fits all normal duty. Your much better off with a full synthetic
oil instead of a "semi-synthetic that will give You half the protection if

If Honda wasn't 100% sure about the system I'm sure they wouldn't introduce it, imagine the lawsuits if cars were dropping engines due to following the exact instructions.

The Honda approved semi-synthetic oil we use is absolutely acceptable, it meets ALL of Hondas oil specifications, and a user should have no problems following the minder system calculated intervals (as long as correct oil is used).
The older cars' oil change reminder light was attached to a simple mileage counter, your concerns would be more valid on those cars.
