Odd/bad experience at dealership during oil change
Odd/bad experience at dealership during oil change
I went in to the dealership this past Thursday to get an oil change. The experience went ok. There was an issue picking me up after the dealership dropped me off at a nearby location as my car was being serviced. I didn't do any of there $1600 worth of recommended repairs at the dealership. Anyway I noticed later in the paperwork I received that somehow my e-mail address got changed. I didn't think to much of it but I wanted to eventually get that changed because I get coupons through e-mail. I go to have my brakes done at a Brake Masters and no problem. Come today I'm going to change my transmission fluid as that was listed as one of those items I needed done.
I jack up the car and immediately notice that I have an oil leak coming from bolt that secures what I think is the oil pan? I am a complete amateur to car repairs but recently I've decided to try to do some of them on my own. This was my first time changing the transmission fluid. That was a mess because the pan wasn't large enough to catch the flow and despite being prepared the whole area got soaked in hot and dirty transmission fluid. Anyway what really concerns me is the oil leak because of the $1600 worth of critical stuff that needed to be changed there was NO mention of oil leak and I had just gotten it changed.
I call the dealership up and the guy eventually agrees to have me come by after the call. From what I saw of the leak it was a pretty slow leak basically a drop maybe every few minutes coming from that bolt so I'm thinking the bolt was not tightened which I just can't believe. Anyway the guys raise it up and the service guy actually walked over with me to the car lifted up. Now it's like 5 of us the original service guy, the one I talked to on the phone and 2 other mechanics staring at clearly a leak on that same spot. Without further inspection they all say the nut was not properly tightened! It was so odd because they didn't seem surprised, everyone was kind of avoiding eye contact and very quiet. I couldn't believe at all. Ofcourse I tell them to tell me what else is loose or wrong and immediately the service guy I talked to on phone says that I have power steering fluid leaking and the hose needs to be replaced and ofcourse this is also no where on the documented problems they listed. Also as I was walking over to my car the service guy that I spoke to on the phone calls over to me and the service guy that initially helped me saying he quoted me the wrong price and service for my rear brakes saying they are drum brakes. The service guy next to me is like oh I thought you had disc brakes, oh it's not an EX. I'm somewhat at a loss of words.
I'm just thinking the worst here that the service advisor colluded with the mechanic to not properly tighten the nut or best case scenario the service mechanic was just incompetent. Have you guys known or heard of this happening at a dealership/mechanics place? I kind of understand people trying to rip me off with expensive repairs but to actually damage/threaten people's safety. What was also so odd was all of them seem to have known very quickly what the problem was as if they were expecting me to come in.

Re: Odd/bad experience at dealership during oil change
Humans make mistakes. Whether it was on purpose or not, IDK.
The people at that shop seem to be at the lower end of the intellectual spectrum. I would find another dealer or independent shop though.
