Help with A/C issue that Shop cant seem to diagnose/fix
Hello, I know there are tons of posts about A/C so apologies if this is addressed somewhere but i cant find a same situation.. here's the scoop
A/C wasn't cooling properly so brought it in to a shop- mechanic hooked up gauges, and determines that pressures were a bit low. Did a full evac and recharge, for the 10 mins or so he ran it , seemed fine.. it was a cool day, went home, 5 mins away and all was well. Next day, took the car, its a hot day and A/C blows ice cold until the car reached operating temp, maybe 5-7 minutes. it then began to blow lukewarm air. No A/C at all. Compressor still engages, fans work, but low pressure hose isn't cold to the touch. Left the car for the afternoon, and same thing.. cold, then just stops. Next day, exact same thing, and so on.. Brought it back to the shop, had it checked die added , and now shop says no leaks but cant diagnose issue as "all checks out just fine" so im at a loss on what to do for next steps? anyone have this happen to them? what would you think may be the problem?

If I remember correctly, the AC gets finicky as well as heater when headgasket is starting to blow. (I might be wrong about impact to AC)
Check if you are loosing coolant in the radiator and if the coolant reservoir is full of coolant.
If yes, do the test below. (quote below is today - it's common)

easy test for gasket (the most common cause for overheating in these engines - clear this one first and foremost, especially if you are losing coolant and coolant reservoir is full of coolant)

Thank you for the reply- Head Gasket and Coolant both fine.. Checked Coolant level today, never dropped an ounce, and changed the oil as well. Clear- No signs at all of any coolant and its not overheating - Guage stays in Normal range

It sure sounds like the thermal protection on the A/C compressor shutting it off. But you wouldn't see the compressor clutch engaged when that happens. You're seeing the inside and outside of the compressor spinning when this happens?
