A/C issue on 2002 civic

It seems that this is a common issue with Civics, which is unfortunate but whatever. I have a 2002 Civic EX, manual transmission, if that makes any difference. I am hoping that there is a common fix for this particular issue. About two years ago, while it was still covered under the warranty, my AC went out, it just started to blow warm air, so I took the car to the Honda dealership in San Antonio. They had the car there for about four days, had two mechanics from another dealership take a look at it and still could not figure out what it was. They "accidentally" fixed it... So I was happy, it being August and hotter than I could handle in Texas. Anyhoo, about a month AFTER my warranty expired, the AC went out about... I am seriously a "one in a million" people...

I've had mechanics look at it and I've looked at it myself, it all comes down to this, I'm not paying for someone to tell me they don't know what the issue is or they think they can fix it and charge for something that doesn't correct the issue!

This is the problem, I've managed to figure this much out, it does not need to be recharged, the compressor will not turn on, the compressor itself seems to be fine, but something is preventing it from turning on. My vents blow out warm air on all the settings, at this point the issue has been narrowed down to being electrical. What should I start looking for?

It's hot, I am a cold weather creature. I need the AC. Help.

could be a bad compressor clutch. alot of times just changing the clutch will fix it, assuming the compressor itself is fine. there are also temp sensors that can sometimes malfunction and trick the a/c comp into thinking its too cold to turn on.

I had a similar problem with our 2000 LX Civic. It started as an intermittent problem where you could feel the clutch disengage and no more a/c but it would just randomly come back on. It got progressively worse until it barely worked. Sometimes it would work when it wasn't so hot out. We went to several shops and they had differing opinions but basically replacing parts and one wanted like $1200 to replace nearly everything. They all agreed on a stuck expansion valve, which wasn't the problem at all.

I lucked out that my mom's retired b/f worked on Hondas for like 30+ years. He found a leaky schrader valve which made the refrigerant leak out (only a couple bucks) which is a major problem in and of itself and the a/c clutch had too big of a gap so he changed the shims and voila. He said anyone can make it work if you replace every part on it so these shops were either too lazy/dumb to figure out problem or just wanted to scam us.

I would guess your problem is similar to mine w/ exception of the leakiness. Much simpler to try this than replace anything. Since most all of us hopefully care about environment and don't have the required equipment to drain & refill a/c you can ask the shop to start with these points.

Honda CR-V 2002 door locks stop working, ac blowing hot and brake light stays on ... diagnosis replacement of a multiplex fuse box under front dashboard $600 to repair, of the 600 which included installation of 175. Had gotten door locks and chime fixed a few months ago and it was 200 dollars but of course it was noted that this was different. Dealer did the work

Mine was blowing hot/cold intermittently. Turned out to be a bad compressor clutch. Shop replaced with a new compressor (and filter/drier) - reason being, the labour to rebuild the compressor would be nearly what the difference was in new compressor price and there'd be no warranty on the compressor itself. Fine, for a job that's alredy north of a G, another $100 for a new unit makes sense.
