Civic died and won't start
Civic died and won't start
Hello all! New to the forum. I have a 2002 Honda Civic LX. It's only got around 150k on it. It's been running strong, no issues until it just died the other day. I was sitting at a stop light, took my foot of the brake and onto the gas, and it died. I've verified I've got spark on all 4 coils. Also verified the fuel pump is working fine. Hooked up the OBD and the only code I'm getting is for the catalytic but that could be the 02 sensor, shouldn't kill the car. Tried putting a little starter fluid in it to see if it would fire, and nothing. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does it whir when turning over instead of the typical chugging sound? Have you done a compression test?
If the cat is plugged enough, it may be causing some problems, but at 150k, unless it's burning an astronomical amount of oil, it shouldn't be an issue.
Are you able to post a video of attempting to start it?

I haven't checked compression yet. Was thinking that might be my next step. Seems to sounds like a standard crank when trying to start it. I'll post a video when I'm back with the vehicle. It doesn't burn oil at all. No noticeable leaks, or oil smell. Never have to check and add oil between changes. Recently did an oil change and put all synthetic in.

ow, darn, yeah, saw that now, you have a LX...
Loosen the header from heads and see if it will start - if yes, it is plugged.
Remove the spark plugs first and let it dry in case you l=flooded trying to start it

Re: Civic died and won't start
Great advise. Thanks. Also wondering if it could be a cam position sensor? Maybe it's sparking in the wrong order? I don't know. It just seems weird that it would be running fine with zero sign of sputtering or loss of power, and then die completely. And after that, not attempt to fire at all. Just crank and crank without a sputter. I would think if it was the cat, or part of the fuel system, or the ignition coils, I would have "symptoms". Or at least an attempt to start.
