2001 Honda civic ex start and stall Help
My 2001 Honda Civic starts and then stalls. It sounds great when it starts up stays running for a few seconds and it just bogs out. Giving a gas does nothing except make it stink like gas. I changed the EGR valve it did nothing I disconnected the exhaust right after the exhaust manifold thinking back pressure from a bad cat did nothing.

you potentially have engine codes (CEL)
check them
engine needs air, spark and fuel, in the right timing, one of these are the cause
moved to engine start problem section, plenty of cases here, take a time to read around what others have had

Re: 2001 Honda civic ex start and stall Help
Here is where I'm at I disconnected the crankshaft sensor and the engine started. So I tore it down a little took the valve cover off move the power steering lines because they were right in the way. The brake booster is right in my way also but it's got to stay I don't feel like bleeding all the brake lines or breaking any. I can't see the timing marks on the engine for the crankshaft just the marks on the pulley itself so I'm going by when the Piston is all the way up on the compression stroke and cylinder one and it seems like the cam is not in the correct space. I really don't understand how it could jump a tooth or two because the belt seems tight. I would just replace the crank sensor but I don't want to just replace parts and really can't afford to. How can I be sure I'm at top dead center. Is just by eye with a screwdriver accurate enough?
