Losing coolant [solved - HG]
2000 SI (US EX) D16Y8 auto, 227xxx kms
Noticed the temp gauge at 2/3 2 weeks ago.
Popped the rad cap, it was low and the bottle was empty.
Filled with coolant.
Today I hopped in after the fiance got home and it was at 7/8(!) fiance says she never noticed it was high
thankfully the warning light wasn't on
Rad low and bottle empty again, refilled with coolant.
I don't see any obvious leaks in the engine bay, but it was already dark out.
Tested the fan with a power probe and it spins.
Doesn't spin with the AC on but I can't remember if the 6th gens do that or not.
I don't think it's the head gasket, hoping it's just a leak I haven't been able to find.
Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated

Heat was working when I got in, as soon as I noticed the gauge I cranked it to max and turned back home (2 min drive)

Nothing yet, been busy with work. Need to check the level again. Haven't heard about the gauge being high again

So little update, replaced all the coolant hoses, the rad, and the o-rings on the water pipe on the back of the engine. Leak seems to have stopped. Probably going to do the timing belt and water pump in the summer

So it was the headgasket, wasn't really noticeable if the car was driven in town. Driving the car on the highway would make it worse. Driving home last night from the airport I stupidly forgot to check the level before we left. I hurt it bad. Going to see if i can limp it to where my tools are. Ordered the parts last night. Called the machine shop and they quoted me $160 to do the head.

I’m right behind you. Trying to decide how much I ‘need’ to disconnect vs ‘have’ to. I couldn’t get the dang engine block drain plug to budge so I’ll be using the shop vac. I discovered my water pipe has both bolts missing too. Oy!
