Civic rebuild mechanic quote
Civic rebuild mechanic quote
I'm hoping to get an opinion on a quote I received from a mechanic for a 99 Civic EX engine rebuild and some customizations. This came from a PDF so please excuse the crappy formatting. Below is the breakdown for the engine rebuild and minor customizations. It will be roughly $5k for rebuilt engine, skunk 2 cam, clutch, flywheel, all fluids, etc. The second part of the quote is +$250 for intake kit and headers and +$550 catback system. I've never paid a mechanic for this type of work and I would love to get anyone's opinion if this is reasonable.

Re: Civic rebuild mechanic quote
Ya that sounds about right.
The thing is they're charging you book time, which is normal. You have overlapping time charges though because you have overlapping services, regarding removing items to access parts.
You might be able to get a deal because the time to access the timing belt system, as well as the time to install the valve springs and cams, could be included in the internal rebuild since they will have to pull the engine and separate the head anyway, or, remove a tone of stuff at least (if they are leaving the block in the frame).
If I were them I would charge this way as well. You would be better of calling a modification shop, and starting a new negotiation meantioning that since the block will be removed from the chassis for the internal, what would be the price including the timing belt/head build.
