Rear main seal oil leak

Hello members!

My mechanic said I have a rear main seal oil
leak with an estimate for $700-800 repair. He said it’s best to wait until I need to replace the clutch so he can do it all at once. My questions... is it safe to drive with this issue? Can it start an engine fire or will it damage my engine more? I check the oil level every two weeks and I need to add a quart of oil about every 3-4 weeks. I don’t do freeway driving on my car just around town. I have a 2000 Honda Civic with 271k miles. Thanks for your help!

Doubt it would start a fire you should be fine to drive.
Post up some pictures. Most of that oil is probably going out the exhaust

Re: Rear main seal oil leak

You're fine, I see 2 to 4 rearmain leaks a month. (Oil shop)

Next time it goes low is Lucas stop leak, 1 full bottle. After that top up with whatever oil you're using.

Next oil change run a high mileage oil and Lucas stop leak.

Or basic oil if you want something cheaper, just dont use synthetic (which is the best lubricant, but also slips through leaks more).
