check engine light prob

95 civic coupe. k. my check engine light comes on when i drive the car for a lil while. i stop, turn off car, turn it on again and check engine light is off. drive it for another little while and check engine light is on again. turn off car and turn on car again and check engine lights off...keep doing this and the light comes on quicker each time....next day i drive until light is on, and take it to autozone....but they dont check obdo.....whats the prob?????

you need to find a code reader and see what it says. check ebay, theres all kinds of cheap readers.

My check engine light came on the other day and i took it by my local autozone and they plugged it up and it passed everything there was no code errer all it said was passed. He said that he couldnt turn it off since it said passed. Anyone else had this problem or anything like it?

well the engine light has to be on when they are scanning it. if it came on yesterday and then turned off, you wont be able to read it. thats why its so important to just buy a cheap one for $30 and keep it in the car so you can plug it in right away.

You don't need a special code reader to pull codes from an OBDI ECU. All you need is a paper clip or a short piece of wore. Click here.

When your CEL turns on, pull over but leave the engine running and then jump the service connector to retrieve the CEL code(s). Post the codes to get more feedback.

My cei was on when they run the scan at autozone. It had just came on that day and it was still on.
My civic is a 2004 EX.

Another possibility is a short in the wire between the ECU and gauge assembly.
