98 Civic LX No power on start
98 Civic LX No power on start
Turn key to start, end up with clicking and idiot lights go off and won't turn over. Car has new battery, starter and solenoid, new main relay. Sometimes when pushing the brake pedal the dash idiot lights go off and when that happens the radio loses memory. Also head lights won't work when turning on and it also kills the idiot lights. When all that happens sometimes you can't get the car out of park and at other times you can. I'm confused and need help please. Thx.

It's not the charging system I'm sure of that. I believe it has to do with the interlock system. I have power but when I turn the key to start it, the power is cut off but when I release the key the power comes back in about 15 sec. The starter and solinoid are new. It's doing the same thing as with the old starter etc. But at times when you turn the lights on they also do the same thing just like trying to start it. Same as pushing on the brake pedal. Now the other day it started so I drove it. I had the back seat down and noticed that when hitting the brakes the trunk light came on. Now nothing has been added to the electrical system. It's the same as when it was new from the dealer. So any ideas as to what the heck is going on. This is frustrating.

Might have a short somewhere. Are you sure its the trunk light and not just the brake light shining through the gaps?
Re: 98 Civic LX No power on start
You could be right that the rear 3rd light could be shinning threw. As far as grounds go. They are all intact in fact all of the wiring is in great shape. It wasy moms car she bought it new and was kept it garage. The car only has 130.000 miles on it. I think it's a short but it does not show its self until I try to start the car. I'm not sure where to start looking anymore because everything checks out good. There is no check engine light either so no codes. The car when running runs great. Can the brake switch be the problem ? Or the neutral safety switch? But I've checked them they test good. I just don't no. Also I have tried jump starting it and that does not good. All grounds are in tact as well. Could the ecm have gone bad?
