Speedometer needle not calibrated to zero
Speedometer needle not calibrated to zero
For about a year my speedometer needle is on the fritz. If I pull the battery wire it resets to zero. Then after a few days, it starts to believe that various speeds are the zero starting point. Sometimes it starts at 30, 80, 100 or it is all the way at the max. It moves correctly to acceleration and deceleration but it won't recalibrate to zero without disconnecting the battery wire. I even found a video where you perform a series of turns on the key, light switch and the odometer reset button. This will move the needle back to 30 but only for a short period of time. Is this a short in the wiring, computer issue, fuse or do I need to call an exorcist?

Yeah, if it's a 6th gen, I'd venture a guess on the VSS, too. I'm sure someone will be able to advise how to test if those things are bad.
Also, I almost lost it at the exorcist part.

Held in by one bolt on top near the back of the trans. Probably have to get the intake tube out of the way. I would get one from the junkyard before buying an aftermarket one
