Radio won't work.
Hello, My name is Maxwell.
I am brand new to these fourms as of today and really do not have fourm knowledge in terms of properly searching or looking up information so I figured I'd just ask my question here and see if anyone can help me. If this post is in the wrong subsection or has already been answered them please have an admin delete this after I've been redirected to the already answered post, thanks!
I currently own a 1998 Honda Civic DX Automatic and have been having an issue with the radio just not working at all after a recent modification to the cars interior. So I recently went to a junk yard and while there purchased the lower section out of another civic for the center console that has the large rectangle cutout for storage and two big cup holders, I used this to replace the un-used CD player that was in the bottom middle center console in front of the gear selector. When replacing the CD player I was.. Let's just say "less than gentle" with removing it as I ripped cables and pretty much yanked it out while I was at a laundromat and didn't really have the tools I would of liked in order to remove it in a more gentle fashion. The cables I ripped were out of the CD player itself, making sure not to yank on the cables that I assumed connected up into the actual head unit of the car, since having removed the CD player though the stock head unit refuses to turn on, acting like it it getting 0% power.
I guess my questions are this, is there anything specifically I should do to troubleshoot the factory head unit or should I just attempt upgrading to an aftermarket one? I already purchased a wiring harness and have been planning to upgrade it since purchasing the car but didn't know removing the CD player would gimp the factory unit till I can save up enough for an aftermarket unit. I'd like to use the factory unit a little longer till upgrading since the upgrade is about 3-4 months off from now before I could get the funds for even a cheap head unit (Disability Life). I can upload pictures as needed, also keep in mind that when replacing the center console portion I also installed the middle arm-rest/cubby that the DX normally does not come with, having gotten it from the junk-yard car. Not saying that might have anything to do with it but figured I should say.
I haven't done anything MAJOR in terms of modifications to the car since ownership began in November 2019, but just to give more information here is everything I have done to it: "Two oil changes with high quality filters and oil (using an engine flush then engine restore to regain some compression during one of the oil changes), Cycled the Transmission Fluid 3 times, Brake Fluid to all 4 wheels, Replaced perishable wiper fluid multiple times, Power Steering Fluid, Coolant, Spark Plugs, Distributor Cap Rotor, Replaced rotted muffler from cat to rear, Front Brakes, Main windshield replaced, Driver Side front inner tie rod, Fixed leaking trunk seal, Sprayed silicone based lubricant on all pivot-points and rubber mounts under car, Ran aerosol-based seafoam through air intake, Every few fill ups I use MMO or Seafoam in the gastank, And a new Napa Battery purchased back in November.
Any information regarding my problem would be greatly appreciated!
With much Appreciation, Maxwell Partridge

Re: Radio won't work.
Check under-hood fuse 47 (7.5A) and under-dash fuse 28 (10A). But first take all the wiring that got mutilated and tape it off. If there is any bare copper showing wrap it in tape ensuring it isn't touching any other wire or any metal in the dash.
Re: Radio won't work.
Thanks for the info, I'll check it tomorrow morning. Mate has to take it to go to work today, thanks!~
If anyone has anything more I could try feel free to continue posting suggestions.

Re: Radio won't work.
So yeah, it was the 7.5 Fuse under the hood that popped. I took the center console back out and took the wires, spreading them apart before electrical taping them and it works again. Thanks alot! Now the next problem I have with it and it has been like this since I've owned it, only the passenger side speaker works. Any idea on that now? I figured the head unit is just going out and losing channels.
Re: Radio won't work.
Since it's a stock radio and should be stock wiring I would check the speaker itself, they do go bad. If you have a multi-meter measure resistance across the speakers two terminals, should see like 4 or 8 ohms.
