Rep Power: 293 jammed cd player...please help
hey guys i have this panasonic cq-dfx983u head unit
and i ejected a cd the other day and after that it wouldnt accept anymore cd's. it thinks there is a cd in there already and no matter what i do, it wont let me put in a new one. i made teh mistake of buying this head unit off ebay used so the warranty is probably gone. i really dont have the money to buy a new one so do you guys have any idea how to fix it? thanks..

Rep Power: 0 Is there a reset button on it? If so try that and see what happens. Is there any way to see if there is a CD in there if you take the HU out and look through the vents on it?

Rep Power: 282 something similar like this happend to me before, where the CD was jammed and would not come out. I un-plugged the cables connecting to the battery, therefore reseting everything, and when I connected it back on, it spit the cd out. I dunno if it'll work, but give it a try.

Rep Power: 0 That sucks. Is there any place out buy you that does repair work and gives free or very cheap estamates? If they find out what is wrong maybe you could fix it then and save some cash or have them fix it if it is not do much cash.

Rep Power: 0 Darn. This is why I allways keep my OEM crap that I take out just for this reason. It never fails us that keep it never need it and the ones that sell it do.
I am stuck what to do since I could not live without some tunes going. No chance you have a little battery powered radio you could sick in there for a day or so. Would look getto but at least you would have tunes.

i have a panasonic deck and everytime it gets reset, it will try to spit out any cd inside the player. you can also try pressing the eject button. if neither of those work, then the cdplayer mechanism is faulty.
anyways, i think you should take it apart...hu's are pretty simple inside...i've fixed several before...
oh, and i noticed my panasonic one doesnt require unscrewing. the top and bottom cover are both clipped on

Rep Power: 304 Hmm... if'n you still had your OEM one, you could put it in, and send your panisonic to me, and I could take it to the shop I use, and they'd repair it for free. I can call them monday and ask them if there's some way to reset the unit, or why it'd be doing that. But that's 2 days away. You try car audio forums yet, to see if'n anyone there could help out? There are some pretty knowledgable folk over there as well.

Yes, this is correct, it's often times cheaper to replace than repair. I used to have a Clarion Deck. It was retailed for 500, but I got it through a discount at a local shop for 175. Some dipshits broke in my car, and took the faceplate only. Not the whole unit, just the face plate. That face plate was 195 from clarion. I got a new Pioneer 740mp when they first came out for 175 to replace it. In my case, it was cheaper to replace.

Rep Power: 319 My friend's stock CD player got stuck like that once. We used another CD to get it out. We kind of stuck the CD in the slot and used the force of friction of CD on CD to pull the other CD out.
