2002 EX: Broken window an opportunity to fix my actuator?
2002 EX: Broken window an opportunity to fix my actuator?
Hello, 2002 Honda Civic EX hardly ever gives me a problem but a couple of years ago my keyless entry stopped working and I have to use my key to open or close the doors. Not a terribly big deal, I've been living with it because I heard that it costs several hundred dollars to fix.
Just now I went to my car, which has been parked in my complex lot for about a week, and the driver window was smashed. However, the window-tint film was still holding it together! It appears they never got into my car.
Now I've got to fix that auto glass, but I'm wondering if I can use the opportunity to fix the actuator since I assume the glass guys must remove the door panel, and that was part of the reason the repair cost so much.
Wondering if anyone can recommend the best type of place to take it to. Lucky me, I have so few problems (knock on wood) that I don't have a regular mechanic. Would I need to see a specialist or can any mechanic do this? I assume an auto glass place would not want to do the actuator. Maybe an auto body repair shop? The glass is probably covered by auto insurance, though I am not sure if I need to meet a deductible first.
Any ideas on the cost?

replacing a window regulator is simple enough tbh. Probably an hour's worth of labor plus parts. Maybe $200 for a new regulator plus install assuming $100 regulator and $100/hr for labor?

I don't think an actuator is the same as a regulator. Google says the regulator pushes the window up and down and I don't think it has anything to do with the alarm system. What I'm talking about is the actuator that locks or opens the door for keyless entry.

My bad, I read actuator as regulator and it made sense in my head after the talk about the window.

Actuator is maybe 30 mins of work to swap, regulator would be the same amount of time
