Fuel fill door won't open

I have a 2001 EX and am unable to open the fuel fill door. I push the release latch down and it won't pop open. I also can pry it open with a screwdriver. I searched the forums and didn't find any posts on this topic. Can anyone help me out? Is there an easy fix or do I need to take this into the shop?

i have the same problem yet i still havent gotten it fixed cause im lazy and dont feel like dealing with the dealer cause i have aftermarket parts. There is still a way to open it, open the trunk peel back the carpet on the left side where the gas tank is and reach all the way back and you will feel a little black plastic **** thing, turn it while pulling towards you and when you pull it out the door should open up, to insert the black thing back in just line up the two tabs with the openings on the hole and turn the **** till the tabs are horizontal, that should do it, if you have any problem just ask. You will have to go to the dealer to get it fixed

Thanks rhcp0801 for the report. I ended up getting it fixed (my trunk is too messy to open every time I need to fill up). But I'm glad I know how to open it in a pinch.

thewal will become famous soon enough
I also had the same problem. I had to replace the release cable that runs from the release latch to the trunk. Common problem with Civics. the plastic that holds the cable to the latch breaks very easy.
