Clattering noise when idle, temporarily goes away when I turn wheel?

Hello, I have a 2005 Honda Civic.

It's intermittent, but I occasionally hear a rattling noise coming from I believe the front/middle of my car when idling (either in park or drive with my foot on the brake). It's not too loud unless there's a wall on either side, for example if I'm in a drivethrough. It goes away for maybe 5 seconds when I turn the wheel. The car also seems to run a bit "rougher" when it kicks back in (I notice it shaking/vibrating a little more). Any ideas?

If it'll help, I'll attempt to get an audio recording and post it the next time I hear it.

Most common cause of a rattle on an older car would be the exhaust heat shield. I would check those out first.

Audio recording here. The volume increases after a few seconds because I stuck my phone out the window. It sounds similar to Youtube videos I've been watching about this issue, but what would be the connection between the exhaust shield rattling and the sound going away when I turn the wheel?

Open the hood while it's running. Start looking around and touching things. Wear gloves so you don't burn yourself.
