Maintenance Required at 132K Miles ???
Maintenance Required at 132K Miles ???
I bought a 2002 LX about 15 days ago, after crashing my old one
The car looks quite & ok so far... But I want to do all the possible required maintenance at 132K miles...
Right now, (I'll have to observe this a little closer) i see the car temp is climbing a bit...
(felt weird in a freezing climate)
Is there a coolant flush or something, that needs to be done around this milage ?
Can someone please give me a list of maintenance work needed at this age of the car... Thanks in advance...

I'm not going to say it's a head gasket but it seems to be one of the most common reasons for overheating in a 7th gen.

if the timing belt has not been changed then you are way overdue on that, that would be my number one priority,
check coolant level in rad and overflow bottle, if they are both at acceptable levels and your still overheating or getting "hot" then chances are your head gasket is blown and you now know why the previous owner ditched this car,
could also be a faulty thermostat but my bet would be placed on the head gasket,
99% of the time these engines get hot and overheat the head gasket is to blame.....good luck because i think your going to need it, that and a whole lot of $$$$$$$

You can check cylinder compression, and/or do a leakdown test, but these won't always positively identify a blown headgasket. Is there any evidence of coolant being splashed around on the inside of the engine bay, especially near the overflow bottle? Do you ever smell coolant, even if just a little?
Based on the age/mileage of the car, the book says do the following for 108K/120K miles:
Replace Fuel Filter (every 24K)
Replace Spark Plugs (every 24K)
Replace timing belt and inspect water pump (every 60K)
Inspect and adjust (replace as necessary) drive belts (every 24K)
Replace engine coolant
Replace transmission fluid
Inspect brakes
Replace brake fluid
Check barking brake adjustment
