Question Bluetooth Phone Issue

Hello everyone,

I have a 2012 Civic and my factory radio recently started to do something weird. My phone connects fine via bluetooth to the car and play music perfectly. However, when I receive phone calls the sound quality becomes really fuzzy and really quiet. I have to crank the volume all the way up on the phone and the car to hear anything but that only serves to make it even more fuzzy to the point of not being able to understand anything at all. After some troubleshooting and investigation it appears that when the radio switches to phone mode the sound for some reason only comes out of the front door speakers and nothing else. This happened out of nowhere and I've checked all the settings but can't find anything wrong. I've also taken the head unit out to ensure everything is securely plugged in but still nothing.

Any help or insight is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Bluetooth Phone Issue

Have you tried other phones to rule out a phone issue?

When you pulled the radio out did you disconnect power? You can try to reset the radio and see what happens.

Those are both great ideas! I'll try both and report back.

Thanks!!!

Re: Bluetooth Phone Issue

Just tried both options with no luck.

I even unplugged the actual car battery to reset everything but still nothing!

This is really starting to get annoying so any other ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Bluetooth Phone Issue

It could be something simple like the bluetooth module or radio but further troubleshooting is needed. They sell replacements but not sure if that is the issue or not. You can take it to the dealer or independent mechanic that does that sort of work but for the cost of that I would just update the radio to a newer one personally.

Re: Bluetooth Phone Issue

Hi Everyone,

After more troubleshooting I've now also noticed that the same audio issue happens when the "phone setup" instructions are playing. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the entire "phone" option in general.

Again, this was something that happened once or twice before but would resolve itself. However, it sure does seem like it's here to stay now.

Might have to just live with it because getting this fixed or replaced professionally seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Thanks
