Rust repair on fenders

I have either surface rust or rot. Won't know until I start sanding this week. Plan is to remove the wheels, use POR15, sand the POR15 paint with 600 grit, use bodyfiller where needed, apply primer and paint.

Some videos show a wheel liner that can be removed, but I'm not sure if thats the case with my CSX. Anyone have any experience or tips? This is the rear wheels.

Use rust converter. Makes the fix last much longer.

I use Rust Check. I’ve used it on my most recent rust repair jobs but I haven’t kept the cars long enough to see how well it works. I’ve had friends who’ve had good results for 4+ years as of now. I imagine most people rust converter products are similar.

Re: Rust repair on fenders

I second that. Either a rust converter or the more labor intensive restoration which would include sanding and preservation, minimizing the amount of body filler you need.

I think it was rustoleum brand I used before, but it turned rust spots into primer. Was kinda nice. It turned the orange rust spots black within seconds (how I'd imagine any rust converter to work), but instead of just stabilizing it, it turned it into something that would actually adhere better.

Re: Rust repair on fenders

POR15 is the best product for this:

Its a three-step product. Key is prep.

As for my rust, if its complete rot, and patches dont work (which the bondo would adhere to), I'll just put POR15 over whatever metal is left.

Won't know till Wed eve when I start sanding...thx for everyone's input thus far!
