Arrow 2014 Civic EX Gas Cap Loose Message

My 2014 has been getting the message on my small screen display the Gas Cap is loose. I have cut the car off and retightened the Cap a few times and I still get the message. The car has been sitting not cranked for about 3 days and the tank is full. Suggestions please and list a few. I have been thinking that maybe remove the battery cables is one option but is there a few more first. Thanks

Could be a fault gas cap. The message means it detects a leak in the fuel tank, not a gas leak but vapors.

Gross evap system leak code is probably stored, at least as a pending code. Do you have a code reader?

Probably the canister vent valve or purge valve. Both are relatively cheap.

Re: 2014 Civic EX Gas Cap Loose Message

You can try a gas cap - that's very easy. If it doesn't work just take it back. From recollection *only* so may not be right, the evap test only runs when the fuel tank is 1/4 to 3/4 full. There's also some temperature parameters, like not below zero or over 120 degrees (those are examples). This time of year no matter where you are that should not be a problem.

I guess you could also make sure the sealing surface on the filler neck and the gas cap are nice and clean. If cleaning or a new gas cap takes care of the problem the message will go away by itself after a few drive cycles. If it remains that was not the problem. Also if you have access to a code reader the code will go from "active" to "history".

I can't remember the last time I saw this message that it was actually the gas cap.
