Mileage Concerns

I've had my 03 Civic LX since January 1st. Since then, I've been just shy of getting 400KM per tank. I don't drive very hard at all. I'm not sure how the MPG ratings and such work in the US, being Canadian....

How many KM per tank is everyone else getting on here?

Chris

is 400KM about 240-250 miles? cuz that is really low.. do you always fill up the full tank? or do you only fill up half way? i always try to gas up at 300 miles and thats about 8-9 gallons.. if you drive uphill a lot that may be the problem.. going against wind has some affect too, but not too drastic

I've down some tests.. filling up the tank completely.. and only getting aroudn 400KM. Not sure off hand what that converts to in miles. I don't do much uphill driving or against the wind.

I'm curious as to what others are getting. Post your km or miles per full tank!

If I was to run my tank dry, I can easily go over 450 miles, or 720 km (1 mile = 1.6 km). I don't understand how you guys can get such low mileage, especially with our Civics. Unless of course you're always gunning it.

I'm a fanatic when it comes to keeping accurate track of my mileage, and I regularly get around 35 mpg. Our tanks are 13.2 US gallons (50 liters), so do the math. I've got a 2001 EX manual coupe, stock except for KN drop-in filter and 15" 2002 Si alloy rims ..... 25% city, 75% hwy driving..... shift at 3000-3300 rpm when not rushed..... regular 5w20 Castrol GTX oil change every 4000 miles.

And I usually cruise at around 80 mph on hwy. I'm sure if I brought that down to 70-75 mph, I would be getting even better mileage. On my cross-country move from Montreal to San Diego, my mileage came out to 38 mpg (or 800 km for a full tank), and that was with a loaded car in the middle of summer with the AC on all the time.

I find that brand of gas makes a difference. Never thought it did, but now I'm convinced after I did a lot of my own testing (like I said, I'm a fanatic when it comes to tracking my mileage). Shell, Mobil and Chevron seem to give me better mileage. Cheaper gas like Arco and Ultramar seem to give me anywhere from 3-5 mpg less. Oh, and I only use regular 87 octane. And always reset your trip meter when you fill up if you want to calculate accurate mileage.

Stuff that might affect your mileage:

How hard do you drive? When do you shift?
What brand of gas u using?
How much city and hwy?
Tire pressure?
Type of oil used?
Any mods? (i.e., if you're always testing to see if you HP has increased cuz of your latest mod, be prepared to get way below 30 mpg)

Ronin is right.
I never got more than 360 miles per tank(when I was breaking up the engine), I am right now at 320 -330. I switch gears at 3000 rpm or higher. I like to give sometimes 6000 rpms. So I would say I am aggressive driver.
400 km is too low. Check your tire presure, put better gasoline, put synthetic oil, and you should get at least 300, at least , with aggressive drive style. Now 250miles is something not right, unless your are a professional racer

The car is an automatic, using 5W30 oil changed at 8000 Km. I keep the tire pressure at the recommended 30psi. Have been using regular gasoline from Shell. I do mostly city driving, but this mileage seems to be unacceptable. Only 400Km per tank, and that is driving around for a good while after the gas light comes on.

Will be going in for Type B maintenance this week, so I will have to have them check out the fuel economy...

Keep posting your Km/mi per tank!

Last fall I was averaging 41 MPG (Made it 420 before tripping the gas light). I did that well for about 3 weeks, then it fell off a little to 35-37 or so. Right now I'm getting about 34, but I'll blame that on the wider tires. Mostly Highway driving with the cruise control, which helps, Mobil 1 5W30, Injen CAI and 215/45/17s at 37 PSI. Pump your tires up a little... it helps the milage. If you're running 15's at 30, put them at 32 and see what happens.

I get on average 35-38 mpg. 95% highway daily driving. I usually end up with about 320 or so miles when my work week is done, and I still have about a 1/4 tank or more left of gas.

Are you sure your topping off your tank? How much gas did it take the last time you filled it up? Remember, our tanks are 13.2 gallons.

I get an average of 380 Miles per full tank. I don't top it off, but I know that my 03 LX has a reserve of ~2 gallons so I ran it pretty much dry once. Now I refill when the light comes on, which yields about 320 Miles or so. Even when I run the engine between 4 and 5 thousand RPMs I still get a little less than 200 miles for the first half of the tank. Get yours checked out. Maybe something is wrong with your fuel pressure system or gauge.

That does seem pretty low I have a 02 lx and im getting around 500-600km's and thats before the light comes on, Ive never really ran it dry to see what i can get. I drive about 70% highway and 30% city and shift a about 3500rpm or at 4 or 5 once in awhile. I noticed about 6 or 7 months after havin mine that it went up a bit! let me know what honda says when you take it in! good luck
