Transmission Jerk
I have an auto 1.7EL and sometimes when I'm stuck in slow traffice, lets say hovering 40kmh (25mph) or so and then I accelerate, the car would try to downshift but would jerk violently and you can hear a loud 'pop' sound before the car gets into the right gear. Is there something wrong with my tranny? I can't reproduce it all the time but it happened twice last week. And I experienced this a couple of month back too.
Any input would be appreciated.

Same things' been happening to my SiG over the last few weeks with increasing frequency. I also notice a slight "thunk" at 20km/h or so if I press down on the gas. The dealer here is going to take a look at it next week. The same thing happened to my '99 Sierra (new style) - GM ended up replacing the tranny on her as well as the torque converter. Thank god for warranty coverage on that one. I'nm already up to 50,000kms after only a year, so I'm not too happy about the tranny going outside the warranty.
I know there are some issues with the auto tranny's in our cars - some threads here include

With all the converse going on about this issue... this should almost be a sticky

Hey thanks FuKNGRuVN.
I missed a couple of those discussions before.
The thing is, dunno if I should bring to dealer because these sorts of things can't be reproduced all the time.

My tranny does that when I'm accelerating somewhat hard and then cut back a lil at like 4k rpm.
Acts like it doesn't know what gear it should be in When I drive hard it shifts perfectly tho

Re: Transmission Jerk
Sorry to revive this thread but I am having the same exact problem with my car and couldn't find anything else to read. Need some help.
I guess it does this since I have got it. It's a 2002 Civic EX 4 door automatic. It just got 60k miles on it and it was never rebuilt.
The transmission jerks every once in a while when the car down-shifts to run quicker when I press on the gas pedal. A considerable "thud" happens.
What should I do?

Re: Transmission Jerk
I'm amazed that my car is an exception. I thought this would be one of those common problems...
Was talking to ezone about it and he said the problem is not familiar to him, so asked me to elaborate.
Here's how it happens:
You accelerate and it goes shifting into gears as it normally would, then you take the foot out of the pedal, and the car rolls naturally still in the gear that it is in, so then you accelerate back on but when the gear it was in already lost momentum and the tranny needs to down-shift, it shifts into gear, no problem, the only problem is that when it shifts down in this circumstance it produces a thump noise, which is a noise from a jerk that occurs.
It can happen at pretty much most RPMs, but it needs to be when it's rolling with the momentum from the last gear, but no acceleration, then acceleration, then down-shift, then jerks / thumps.
I am thinking it might just be a broken motor mount... At least I am hoping it is.
I'll try to shoot a video of it.
But I know I have to replace these motor mounts, at least the front one, it has never been replaced, so I'll do it anyway, and if it stops, we'll have an answer.
