To anyone who has had the suspension noise....
Covered on this TSB, it says the noise occurs when traveling over bumps, etc.... Has anyone had noises when turning at low speeds that could be related to this? I've got the same clunky noise, but it's when I turn the wheel to the right.... and it sounds like it comes from the same area. My guess was something with the tie-rod, now that I found this, I'm almost convinced, except the TSB doesn't mention steering noise.
So then I looked around on here and have seen some people have had the springs replaced because of the steering clunk... but no one has come back and said it worked... So... Did it work?

I've seen a lot of lowered civics (including my own) and the knocking noise (coming from the front) is there. hmm,... i dont suppose honda would fix cars with aftermarket springs.
TSB is out, but honda will give all sorts of bs and ignore us. So much for TSB... maybe people with stock suspension will have luck.

I'm still having that noise too.. but not as prominent as it was for the first 4 months. there was actually a time when the noise seemed to cease entirely, but now with all this cold weather it's coming back. i find it odd that no one has come up with a solution for it yet. it must be the way the springs are installed. because some people with B+Gs don't have the noise. ARGH WHY ME
... er,
WHY US!!!!

my rear shocks make a weird noise when goin over bumps and driving at low speeds. and my front shocks are blown at 35,000 miles, on stock suspension. its all gettin fixed though before the 36k mile warranty is up tho.

i read another TSB and it mentioned some suspension part rubbing....
the fix was using some stick on tape somewhere...i dont remember the details because i dont have that problem. my car has been working surprisingly well.
my only beef are the clunking power windows and my seat rocks a tiny bit

I'm posting right now from the dealership. I hope that they can fix it today! My car has that same seat "rock" to it too. This is my third civic and my first new civic and it is the one that i've had the most problems with!!!! I'd love to get something else but I don't want to start over with payments.
haha...i'm on my 2nd 7th gen civic...
first one was the LX coupe...that one was alright but it had that clicking noise prob
i now have an Si-G coupe(US EX model)...the car works fine...i'm happy with it so far. i've had only minor probs

Interesting that the TSB says only US ex/lx auto.
Perhaps it is the front left spring on your car since turning to the right makes the noise.

Ok... um, apparently no one managed to ever look at the original date. I had the struts replaced 10 months ago.

I have the noise coming from the front when turning (lowered on stock shocks, H&R Sport springs). A friend of mine found that the spring was binding when compressing or expanding. Apparently the grease for the bearings up front is too thick, so diluting it with some sort of THINNER grease fixed it. At least it did on his SiR (Si in US)...that's only what I've HEARD. Don't quote me, but his car turns nice and quiet now...

I use to have some popping noise when i made slow turns and goin over bumps when i first got my springs. I guess the springs settled and the noise is gone.
I just got back from the dealer. They told my that both my struts were blown. I've only had the car since Mar. of 02!! Anyways, they replaced the drivers side one and they have to order the passenger side one and replace that too and do an alignment. Thank god for the factory warranty thats paying for everything!!

btw, is the ride much less bumpy now?
mine doesnt make any noise but the ride is very rough...my car is not lowered either..
I had my struts, springs and steering rack replaced by Honda twice because of a hard clunk over bumps, tried coil wraps everything, but it remained.
After a year Honda decided to replace both tie rod ends. Hey presto gone !!!!!

i think the popping noise when turning could be from how your springs were installed... i think if you dont line the upper and lower parts of the struts back up just so, and seat the spring properly, it will click as it adjusts in corners
Then the lining up of the upper and lower parts of the struts would have done at the factory because I have never taken apart the suspension. Just to let you guys know too, after having the drivers side strut replaced, it still makes the noise as loud and prominent as ever. Know I have to wait until the passenger side strut/spring comes in and the dealer installs that hopefully next week and then I will let you all know whats up then! When it all boils down to it, my 2002 car shouldn't have two blown struts and a loud noise when turning with only 23k miles. Thats a little rediculus!!
One02Civic2nv is right. when lowering a 01+ civic you have to have the upper mounts and the bottom part of the strut lined up just right, becuase the upper mount of the strut is angled and the way the macpherson strut works is that the upper mount has to be seated right in order for the bearing on the upper mount to pivot. if it isn't seated right the upper mount will hit parts of the fender well or cause the tie rod to click because of the awkward angle you guys put on it while turning.
best thing to do is mark the upper mount and lower perch of the strut with a grease pen or permanent marker when disassembling the strut. then change the coil and trim the bumpstop and put it back together lining those two marks back up again.

And the Saga continues. I'm going back to the dealer on Thurs. so they can hopefully finish the job.... Meaning they will be installing a new strut/spring combo on the passenger, the side the noise was coming from in the first place!! They also told me that doing these new struts does not require a front wheel alignment. I beg to differ!! Acording to the TSB a front wheel alignment is required to complete the job. Bastards are always tying to cheap out on warranty work!!!
i just have that problem when i loweredmy 01 civic ex,and start to do that noise and i find out that the upper part ,of the strut, had a rubber base, were the spring sit, that rubber have 6 or 8 metal tips covered by the same rubber, when you put the sring on it bent the tips with a chissel, now my ride is 100%noise free!whell that work for me guysyou can tryit....good luck pal!
