Side airbag light
I was driving around the other night with a friend of mine and my side airbag light kept coming on then going off. It happened like three times. We were driving past the dealership where I got my civic so I figured I'd stop by and ask them about it. Well the guy there said that our civics have sensors in the seat then sense the weight of the passenger and determine if they are a little kid or not. If the weight is under a certain point the side airbag turns off on that seat and the light comes on. Since my friend wasn't a little kid we were wondering why the side airbag turned off with him in the seat. The guy said that sometimes if the person sits low in the seat that it can throw off the sensor.
Anyway, I just thought I'd post this if the light ever goes on and your wondering what the deal is.

i would agree with that. sometimes if the person shifts around in the seat, the sensor would go on and off also. no big deal. also, if i place a 19inch monitor on the seat, the light would stay on almost all the time. but in general, the light hardly comes on.
Hey you guys, the Side Airbag light did go off when one of my friends sat in the passenger seat. When I first got the car, it kept going off, cause I always had my friends in my car. I got used to it, and never bothered to say anything about it. After a while I noticed one of my friends leaning too close to the door. The Side Airbag light goes off, and I'm wondering why it's showing up on the dash. My friends finally leans in a little bit more, and the light goes off. So all I do from now on is force all my friends to sit leaning in, or sit straight. Then your problem is solved.

It supposed to deactivate if it senses that something is in the airbag's deployment path. No bashing intended but you should read every page of your owner's manual when you bring the car home from the dealer. I have always enjoyed doing that. I keep it at my desk and just skim through it from time to time.
Anyhow, my '00 accord had the side airbags and that stupid light used to bug the hay outta me!
