Pause when switching gears

I have an auto trans and whenever it switches from 1st to 2nd there is a short pause before it goes into gear. It shifts immediately when the car is cold, but after warming up there is the lag. My friend was riding with me and says its not normal. When I sat in his 99 civic with auto it switched fast with no lag. By the way, my car has been doing this since I got it new. Is it a thing with the newer gen of civic? Thanks for your input.

SoNiCcIvIc is an unknown quantity at this point
If your car is new, simply take it back where it came from A.S.A.P.. Don't let this go on any longer.

Could be a low fluid condition, not sure though. Whatever you do dont overfill your tranny. Usually when the tranny fluid is cold, its thicker and takes longer for it to travel through the tranny gullies and valleys. This is why it gives harsher or firmer shifts. Once the tranny fluid warms up, it thins out and shift points get sloppy or lazy. This is why sometimes on the heat of summer and running in stop and go traffic the auto trannys slip more. You can inspect your tranny fluid condition by looking and smelling it. It should be clear with a reddish tint. If its blackish or brown and smells burnt, you got problems...
