starting the car when the car is already started?
Confusing huh? Well I was pulling into a parking spot and put the car in neutral and left the car on while i was sitting in it (i was waiting for someone). I was listening to music so i was kind of tuning everything else out. Anyway my friend got in the car and I started turning the key. It made this really strange sound, almost as bad as grinding your gears. I did it like 3 consecutive times before i realized that the car was already on (damn our engines are quiet). Has anybody else done this? I was a little worried afterward because i did it 3 times. Let me know whats going on please. thanks

I agree, common sense says that if you do something like that every day, you are bound to have a problem real fast! But once or twice isn't so bad..our cars are really quiet so it makes it hard to hear them idling...

When you do that your grinding the starter on the flywheel. If you do this often you could possibly snap off a couple of teeth from the flywheel or damage the starter. Either way its alot of $$$ and probably not covered under warranty, unless you DIY.
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

I did it a couple of times when I first started learning how to drive stick on my civic. I thought that I had stalled out my car and went to start it back up, it made that grind sound. Then I realized I had pushed the clutch in fast enough to keep the engine running.
Shoot, even the Service Manager at the Honda Dealership did it when we were taking it out for a test drive for a problem with the tires...I nearly crapped my pants when SCCCCCRRAAATTCCCHHHH!!!!
