what coulda caused this? plz help!!
sup guys
well, i was driving on da freeway the other day and as i was changing lanes, 3 lugnuts on my left rear wheel BROKE off (as in the thread that sticks out snapped in half). i got lucky cuz the last lug didn't come off and i was in the first lane the and exit was right there, so i pulled over. but i had no idea how that happened, so i just wanna hear some inputs about it and what you think the cause might be; therefore, i can prevent this from happening again.
so far i've come up with:
1) my custom sound system is too heavy (about 700lbs according to my installer)
2) my lugnuts were too tight? or loose?
i also just read that story about the guy that got 2 years for killing a 10 yr old with his wheel that came off...so yah...that kinda scared me

I find that extremely hard to beleive.....
About your situation, damn man, you got really lucky, the only thing that comes to mind is someone losened your lugs or something, because those thing dont come of easy, is axle bent or warped? i dont really know what could ahve happened, I've never heard of that happening...only on tractor-trailers

haha, well, im all show, so speed doesn't matter that much to me
but i have 2 JL w7's, and they're 53lbs each already, plus 3 amps, the wood, battery, cap, dynamat, i'd say it's pretty close to 700lbs, not sure though

oh yah, i forgot to mention that after i pulled over, i found the 3 lugs with the broken studs laying on the ground TOGETHER about 10 feet behind my car...that just seemed really really puzzling..
If they snapped off like that, I'd say the cause is definately weight.
Options:
1) Find some studs in a material stronger than steel (titanium?).
2) Drill out your hubs for larger studs and get wheels that will accomodate that.
3) Try and lose some weight in the trunk.

2 subs 100 pounds
3 amps - I'll guess high at 100 pounds for all 3
wood - a 4x8 piece of wood weighs 50 pounds tops and I doubt you used a whole piece
battery 50 pounds
cap maybe 2 pounds
dynamat? I doubt you use more than 100 pounds...
anyways that comes to maybe 400 pounds and that still seems high... either way I think you're full of it....
Dayum...with all that weight, you'll need to make sure that your rear suspension is strong enough. The weight distribution of your system was probably imbalanced and made your car lean a certain way. Perhaps that rim was carrying most of the weight and snapped the lugs. Or..someone tried to jacked your rims and loosened the lugs.
