radio static when the rear defroster is on
anyone have this happen to them. i got a new head unit but it was still doin it when i had the stock radio in the car. anyone know how i can fix this.
is the antenna the wires that terminate on the middle of the rear window?
is the antenna connected to the defroster or use the defroster wires for an antenna?
if not, maybe the antenna is shorted over the defroster wires...

I have the same damn problem and no matter what I do I cannot fix it. It only happens with my radio on not the cd player. It just started recently. If you find out what is wrong please let me know....it is driving me crazy.
believe it or not the rear defroster and the car's antenna pretty much run on the same line at one point.
If you crack open the right rear plastic panel (located between the small side window and the rear windshield) you will find the power antenna control box. There could be a loose/corroded connection in that area, or your power antenna wire on the wiring harness might not be connected.
This happened to me after I installed a new head unit, and i didnt realize that you had to connect the blue power antenna wire on the harness to the stock harness. Even though our cars have an integrated rear windshield antenna, it is still a power antenna, and that little box is an antenna booster.
If im not mistaken the antenna wire (in the car) is yellow with red stripes, and the defrost is yellow.
Ever since I connected the power antenna wire (blue) from the head unit harness to the car's power antenna (yellow red stripes), I havent had any more static. But I do recommend checking the little area around the box, as it could be the cause of something else. Hope this helps somewhat.
