d17a1 multiple problems help!!

Just bought an 03 lx manual transmission about a week ago. Guy said the battery light was on Bc of a bad alternator that needed to be changed so that was fine with me and bought it and left. Took it and had it checked and the alternator along with the whole charging system are fine but the light is still on? Checked tensioner and all is fine, all grounds are fine and cables with terminals are tight.

Another problem... all was fine until it began hard to start and check engine light p0335 crank position sensor came up..... started smoking a gray color whenever it did start up and a lot of it too. I changed the sensor and in doing so found out that the cam position sensor bolt came loose and was rattling around in the timing cover and was grinding a groove in the timing belt along with the sensor unplugged from the block. So I changed that sensor too with the belt and along with that the valve cover gasket and cam plug. I checked the spark plugs and they look like normal wear. Changed oil and drained some of the coolant fluid to check if there was any contamination between the two and found nothing. Checked the timing and Put it all back together and went to start it up and same thing all over again. Code p0335 and won’t go over 3500 rpms. Noticed my coolant low after just topping it off and went to perform a leak down test and as I had the radiator cap off and started it up cold, fluid sprayed everywhere and leak down test fluid automatically turned green and smoke was coming out of the radiator and exhaust. I guess depicting a blown gasket? But what would make the cps code go off too and stay on after being changed? And what is up with the battery light? Could it be a bad ecu?

The test you performed for the head gasket is called a Block Test. If the blue fluid turns yellow or green then that signifies exhaust emmissions entering cooking via a head gasket breach. If you accidentally sucked up some the antifreeze into the block tester that could cause a false positive and the tester needs to be cleaned and the block test performed again correctly.

A cylinder leakdown test in which 150 psi of compressed air is injected into each cylinder at TDC with the radiator cap off and inspect for bubbles is the best way to diagnose a leaking head gasket.

Oh I’m sorry I don’t know much about this. This is my first time dealing with something like that. I will have to do some more research and probably perform that test this weekend. Is there anything else that would make smoke and fluid fly out of the radiator like that?

Clogged radiator internally or externally, malfunctioning waterpump, low coolant level due to an internal (head gasket) or external leak. The white smoke from the exhaust is most likely coolant in the cylinders burning off.
