D17a2 3rd-5th gear cant pass 4000k
Hi guys, well I have a very peculiar issue with my 7th gen civic, when I first got the car, its was in horrific mecanical shape, after a complete overhaul, the car has been a night and day difference but we're still experiencing some issues im trying to resolve, the car works well, but it seems that only first and second gear are able to pass 4k, meanwhile 3rd-5th gear are limited to 4k and it seems like it hits a limitier or governor at 4k rpm, this inhibitis me to pass 80 mph of the highway and its very frustrating since im limited to only those revs, what might be the issue here, has anyone experienced something similair to what i am going through? Any help would be very appreciated, blessed day to all

Exhaust restriction?
Fault codes?
Re: D17a2 3rd-5th gear cant pass 4000k
How bad was the engine? What all was wrong with it? What all was done to it?
Does it pull hard all the way to redline? Or does it just kinda peter out above 4000 even though it will reach redline?
Exhaust restriction?
The exhaust sounds like it need replacing, when cold, it sounds good, but once its warm, it sounds horrible and loud, very ricerish

Ps: when cold or starting to get warm, i step on first gear and second and it lets me pass 4000 rpm without any issues, but once the car has reached optimal temperature, it wont pass 4000 rpm.

Did you actually check for fault codes and confirm there are none, or are you just assuming none because the check engine light isn't on?
I'd probably want to examine the PCM data list while driving, and if I suspect an exhaust restriction I might disconnect the exhaust pipe at the bottom of the manifold and give it a drive.

To be completely honest, im assuming, since there are no CEL lights on, I will get a scanner and run to see if it throws any codes. I'll also try to disconnect the exhaust pipe to see if that resolves the issue.
